Upcoming Events

The next Parish Council meeting will take place on Monday, February 13, at 7:30pm in the cafeteria.

There will be no Mass or Novena on Mon-day, February 20, 2017 due to President’s Day.

Our next Parish Food Drive will be held the weekend of February 25-26, 2017 and will be distributed to our own St. Mary’s parishion-ers.

Our Annual Beefsteak Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, immediate-ly after the 5:00pm Mass. The tickets for adults are $30 and for children ages 5-12, $10. Children under 5 years old are free.

Our parish hall, located on 181 First Street, is available to rent on Saturdays throughout the year. Please contact the Parish office for more information.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES You Did it For Me

Wanda* graduated from a Catholic Charities’ financial literacy program that gives partici-pants the opportunity to work on personal change and move toward self-sufficiency. She had been selling drugs, but she was arrested. With no income, no diploma, and a felony on her record, she made a call to Catholic Chari-ties. They helped Wanda secure a part-time job, work toward finishing her education, and even get her felony expunged. Wanda believes God set her on a “new journey,” and she in-tends to stay on it.

In 2015, Catholic Charities agencies provided 165,015 clients financial literary services.

No habrá Misa de 7pm o novena el lunes, 20 de febrero de 2017 debido a la festividad de Día de los Presidentes.

Nuestra próxima Colecta de Comida Parro-quial se llevará a cabo el fin de semana del 25 y 26 de febrero y será distribuido a nuestros propios feligreses.

Nuestra Cena Anual de Beefsteak se llevará a cabo el sábado 25 de febrero de 2017, in-mediatamente después de la Misa de las 5pm. El precio de los boletos será $30 para adultos y $10 para niños de 5 a 12 años. Niños menores de 5 años son gratis.

El Grupo de Oración de Sta. María se reúne los martes empezando con la misa de las 7pm hasta las 9pm. Todos están invitados. Tam-bién, la Asamblea de Oración se lleva a cabo todos los primeros domingos a las 3pm.

Wanda * se graduó de un programa de alfabetización financiera de las Caridades Católicas que brinda a los participantes la oportunidad de trabajar en el cambio personal y avanzar hacia la autosuficiencia. Había esta-do vendiendo drogas, pero fue arrestada. Sin ingresos, sin diploma y un delito grave en su expediente, hizo una llamada a Caridades Católicas. La ayudaron a con-seguir un trabajo a tiempo parcial, trabajaron para ter-minar su educación e incluso lograron eliminar su felo-nía. Wanda cree que Dios la puso en un "nuevo viaje", y ella tiene la intención de permanecer en ella.

500 AÑOS DE SEPARACION, 100 AÑOS DE UNIDAD

Este Año Nuevo marca el 500 aniversario del comienzo de la Reforma. Todo sucedió en Alemania cuan-do Martín Luther, un monje Agustino, protestó contra algunas acciones de la Iglesia Católica. Todos sabemos lo que pasó después. Hace 500 años, la Iglesia estaba dividida en católicos y protestantes. Esta separación trajo mu-cho dolor, resentimiento e incluso castigo en cada lado. Sin embargo, aunque muchas cosas nos han mantenido separados, hay dimensiones esenciales de nuestra fe que nos hacen uno y nos unen como un imán al metal; Por ejemplo, aunque separados, todos somos cristianos; Profesamos una fe en Cristo, el Hijo de Dios que nos redimió y nos reveló que él es el camino, la verdad y la vida; Por lo tanto, hay unidad incluso en medio de la separación.

Durante más de 100 años, los cristianos de todo el mundo han estado orando por la unidad de los cristianos, observando la Oración Mundial por la Unidad de los Cristianos. Iglesias cristianas de diferentes denominaciones organizan servicios de oración y talleres y distribuyen información sobre este tema cada año del 18 al 25 de enero. Este tema repre-senta una oportunidad para emprender nuevas acciones hacia la reconciliación y reflexionar sobre las causas de la separación y el dolor que este evento ha infligido a la Iglesia.

Según los Frailes Franciscanos de la Expiación, este año el tema encuentra sus orígenes en la Exhortación Apostólica Evangelii Gaudium (La Alegría del Evangelio) del Papa Francisco en el año 2013 cuando utilizó la cita: "El amor de Cristo nos obliga" (párrafo 9) . El tema encuentra su contexto bíblico en 2 Corintios 5:14. El Consejo de Iglesias en Alemania se encargó de crear los recursos para la Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristia-nos de este año. Han sido 500 años de separación y 100 años de unidad; Pero, se ha dicho que Dios es Dios de los absurdos; Lo que no tiene sentido para nuestro intelecto humano tiene un perfecto sentido para Dios; Y esta Se-mana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos nos recuerda que lo que nos une es mucho más significativo que lo que nos separa.

500 YEARS OF SEPARATION, 100 YEARS OF UNITY

This New Year marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation. It all happened in Ger-many when Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk, protested against some actions by the Catholic Church. We all know what happened next. Five hundred years ago, the Church was divided into Catholics and Protestants. This separation brought a lot of pain, resentment, and even punishment on each side. Yet, though many things have kept us apart, there are essential dimensions of our faith that make us one and pull us together like a magnet to metal; for instance, though separated, we are all Christians; we profess one faith in Christ, the Son of God who re-deemed us and revealed us that he is the way, the truth, and the life; therefore, there is unity even in the midst of separation.

For over 100 years, Christians around the world have been praying for Christian unity, by observing the World Prayer for Christian Unity. Christian churches from different denominations host prayer services and workshops, and distribute information on this matter every year from January 18 to 25. Praying for Christian Uni-ty during these dates has a special significance; the dates were proposed in 1908 by Servant of God, Father Paul Wattson, S.A., Founder of the Society of the Atonement, based on the feasts of the Chair of St. Peter (January 18) and the Conversion of St. Paul (January 25).

The theme for this year is “Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us.” This is the very same motto that Saint Anthony Claret, Founder of the Claretian Missionaries, chose for his episcopal coat of arms. This theme represents an opportunity to take further actions towards reconciliation and reflect upon the causes of separation and the pain this event has inflicted on the Church.

According to the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, this year the theme finds its origins in Pope Fran-cis’ 2013 Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) when it used the quote: “The Love of Christ Compels Us” (Paragraph 9). The theme finds its scriptural context in 2 Corinthians 5:14. The Council of Churches in Germany took up the work of creating the resources for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It has been 500 years of separation and 100 years of unity; but, it has been said that God is the God of absurdities; what does not make sense to our human intellect makes perfect sense for God; and this Week of Prayer for Chris-tian Unity reminds us that what unites us is far more meaningful than what separates us.

Saint Mary’s Annual Beefsteak Dinner

Beefsteak tickets are now on sale after all weekend Masses.

The beefsteak is Saturday, February 25, 2017, immediately after the 5:00pm Mass.

Adult tickets are $30.00, children 5-12 years are $10.00, and children under 5 years of age are free.

Chicken dinners are available on a preorder basis only.

Checks can be made payable to Saint Mary’s Church.

NO tickets will be sold at the door.

New and unused gift donations for our raffle can be brought to church and placed in front of the left side altar.
