South River Church Family,

This is going to be an exciting month in the life of our church! Our study on the Peace-maker is proving to be both challenging and convicting for each one as we embrace our responsibility to seek peace with all men. If you haven’t picked up a book and joined a Sunday School class in this study, it is not too late. While the pursuit of peace is not always easy, it is rewarding for all parties involved. Join us in that endeavor.

Mark your calendar to join us in the Agape dinner on February 11th as we welcome back evangelist Neal Hatfield and his bride Sue. Pastor Scott and the youth are preparing for another great evening and you will not want to miss out.

Let me encourage you to join us on February 13th as we host the NC Regional Missions rally at South River. We will have a night of hearing how God is working through NC Southern Baptists to reach our state and beyond with the good news. Thank you to those who have volunteered to as we host this event and make our brothers and sisters feel wel-come and comfortable that evening.

Finally, the church family will again gather to encourage the AWANA children and stu-dents in the annual Grand Prix as well as enjoy some great chili and desserts. This is a time when our entire church family can fellowship together following our evening service. Men and women, get your best recipes and plan to attend!

If you haven’t found a place of service, we have several needs in the body where you can make a difference. Let me or one of our pastors know that you want to do your part in growing the kingdom and serving at South River.

CHILDRENS MINISTRY

As life begins to settle back down from the snow-apocalypse, it’s time to get into gear. Last month we launched two additional children ministries that have taken the place of Kidz Choir. For the older students (3rd-5th Grade) we will be teaching Kidz Evangelism, which is a spin from the “Way of the Master” evangelism program. For our younger students (1st-2nd Grade) we have started an entire new curriculum from “Answers In Genesis”. I am excited to see the children growing closer to God as they learn and experience the Gospel. Tiny BEATS is still continuing to sing praises to God for the rest of the winter and spring season. Also during this thaw-out season we will be having the annual AWANA Grand Prix! This is an exhilarating time to see students compete. It is also a great opportunity for you (Mom and Dad) to bring out your best homemade chili recipe, or cake and pie recipes! I can’t wait to see you all there! Pastor Stephen A. The first month of 2017 is already over and before we know it the second month will come and go as well. Can’t believe I had someone in my of-fice yesterday and they reminded me that Christmas was only 11 months away. Can you believe it we are already 5 weeks into our 52-week Bible reading plan? I say all that to remind us of the fact that time does fly. James said life is like a vapor, here one day and gone the next. Paul said

it best in Ephesians 5 - See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeem-ing the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Fa-ther in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. May we be wise with our time this new year.
