Page 1: Featuring VLAN Switching and Inter-VLAN Routing

NetVanta® switches provide managed switching features, like multi-layer switching and 802.1Q Virtual LANs (VLANs). VLANs provide logical segmen-

tation of the network, adding additional

security and separation of broadcast

domains, which improves the overall

network performance. Gigabit uplink

ports on the NetVanta switches provide

a high-bandwidth interface between

interconnected switches. These switches

support both copper based 1000Base-T

and fiber based optical connections using

the Small Formfactor Pluggable (SFP)

modules supporting both single and

multimode fiber applications. In addi-

tion, these Gigabit ports can be used for

VLAN trunking to an upstream switch like

the NetVanta 1544, which is "half-rack" in

size, for multi-layer switching, link redun-

dancy, or to connect high-speed servers

or other devices.

Solution Features■ Cost-effective managed

Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching

■ Gigabit uplink ports for up to 20 Gbps of link aggregation

■ VLAN support for addedsecurity by separating LAN traffic

■ Interoperability withstandards-based switching technology

■ VoIP-ready with Quality of Service (QoS) and LLDP-MED

■ Wi-Fi® access controller for centralized management of NetVanta Wireless Access Points
