MILKY WAY WALL HANGING – BLOCK 4 | QUILTING
InstructionsNote: Cutting template on page 31. Roughly cut fabric to cover each labeled area of the
foundation; remember that you'll need four of eachpiece. For area 8 only, cut two pieces of CBFS004.HOTRO and two pieces of CSFSESS.FUSHI. Cut thefabric at least 1⁄2" (1.3cm)
2. larger on each side than the correspondingfoundation area. Refer to the foundation labels forfabric placement.
3. Place fabric piece 1 right side up on the unmarkedside of the paper foundation, making sure that itextends beyond the perimeter of foundation area 1on all sides. It's helpful to hold the foundation up toa bright light so the fabric is visible from the printedside of the paper.
4. Place piece 2 on the unprinted side of thefoundation, right side up, positioning it so that itcovers area 2. Carefully flip piece 2 over onto piece1 so that the fabrics are right sides together, makingsure that fabric from both pieces extends at least 1⁄4"(.6cm) beyond the seamline. Pin the pieces in place. With the foundation printed-side up, sew on the linebetween areas 1 and 2.
5. Working on the unprinted side of the foundation, flip fabric 2 over so that its right side is facing up,and check again to make sure that fabric covers theentire foundation area. Flip fabric 2 back onto fabric1 and trim the seam allowances to about 1⁄4" (.6cm).Smooth fabric 2 back over its foundation area andpress.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the remaining foundationareas. When you have completed piecing the entiresection, trim the perimeter seam allowances to 1⁄4"(.6cm). Make four quarter blocks, using each area-8fabric for two of the quarter blocks.TIP: To stabilize the outer edges of each piecedsection, stitch just outside the seamline around thesection perimeter before trimming the foundations.
7. Following the block diagram above, sew the fourquarter blocks together to make the block, matchingintersecting seams. Carefully tear the paper from theback of the block and press.
