JOY TO THE WORLD

Psalm 98; Isaac Watts 1674-1748

Joy to the world! the Lord is come:

let earth receive her King;

let every heart prepare him room,

and heaven and nature sing,

and heaven and nature sing

and heav’n, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the world ! The saviour reigns;

let us our songs employ;

while fields and floods,

rocks hills and plains,

repeat the sounding joy,

repeat the sounding joy,

repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

SILENT NIGHT

Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht, Joseph Mohr 1792-1849

Silent Night, Holy Night,

all is calm, all is bright

round yon virgin, mother and child,

holy infant so tender and mild,

sleep in heavenly peace,

sleep in heavenly peace.

Po marie, po aroha!

Kei te moe nga tangata,

e titiro atu ana

a Maria me Hohepa

Ki te kaiwhakaora,

ki a Hehu aroha.

Silent Night, Holy Night,

shepherds quake at the sight;

glories stream from heaven afar,

heavenly hosts sing alleluia;

Christ the Saviour is born,

Christ the Saviour is born.

Silent Night, Holy Night,

Son of God, Love’s pure light,

radiant beams from thy holy face,

with the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus, Lord at thy birth,

Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

Ki te ingoa o te Matua, o te Tamaiti, o te Wairua Tapu. Amene.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID’S CITY

Cecil Frances Alexander 1818-1895 Tune: IRBY

Once in Royal David’s city

stood a lowly cattle shed,

where a mother laid her baby

in a manger for his bed:

Mary was that mother mild,

Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven

who is God and Lord of all,

and his shelter was a stable,

and his cradle was a stall;

with the poor, and mean and lowly

lived on earth our Saviour holy.

And through all

his wondrous childhood,

he would honour and obey;

love and watch the lowly maiden,

in whose gentle arms He lay:

Christian children all must be,

mild, obedient, good as He.

For he is our childhood’s pattern,

day by day like us he grew.

He was little weak and helpless,

tears and smiles, like us he knew:

and he feeleth for our sadness,

and he shareth in our gladness.

Sing a new song to the Lord. Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Sing to the Lord, sing to the Lord. Sing to the Lord, bless his name!

Proclaim his help day by day. Tell among the nations his glory.

Tell of his works, tell of his works, and his wonders among all the peoples.

Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad. Let the sea and all within it thunder praise.

All of the land, all that it bears, rejoice at the presence of the Lord.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Tony Alonso

NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

Phillips Brooks 1835-1893 Tune: FOREST GREEN arr. Ralph Vaughan Williams

O little town of Bethlehem,

how still we see thee lie.

Above thy deep and dreamless

sleep the silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth the

everlasting light;

the hopes and fears of all the years

are met in thee tonight.

O morning stars, together proclaim

the holy birth,

and praises sing to God the King,

and peace to all on earth;

for Christ is born of Mary;

and, gathered all above,

while mortals sleep the angels keep

their watch of wond’ring love.

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.
