Feasibility Study for the Sustainability for Implementing Solar-Hybrid Mini- Grid Systems in 7 Villages in Marsabit In order to carry out these seven feasibility studies, ASD; assessed the project success potential for the seven sites in alignment with the grid extension likelihood, comparting estimated cost of the mini-grid solution versus grid extension options; assessed the current, future and effective electricity demand of the seven areas through data collection and identification of potential electricity clients; assessed the electricity consumers’ willingness and ability to pay while identifying Anchor-Business-Client model potentials as well as qualitative factors which contributes in the decision to pay for electricity; assessed the sustainability of the sties for LV mini-grids from the settlement’s density and provide a draft distribution network design which covers at least 80% of the assessed demand. Finally, ASD provided recommendations for project implementation options for each locality including pointers towards productive use of the electricity generated. ASD was hired by GIZ in 2017 to carry out feasibility studies for the sustainability of the implementation of solar hybrid-mini- grid projects in seven areas in Marsabit county. Those seven areas were: Olturot, Misa, Diridima, Ngurunit, Namarei, Lengima and Dabel. Feasibility Study for the Sustainability for Implementing Solar-Hybrid Mini-Grid Systems in 7 Villages in Marsabit

In order to carry out these seven feasibility studies, ASD; assessed the project success potential for the seven sites in alignment with the grid extension likelihood, comparting estimated cost of the mini-grid solution versus grid extension options; assessed the current, future and effective electricity demand of the seven areas through data collection and identification of potential electricity clients; assessed the electricity consumers’ willingness and ability to pay while identifying Anchor-Business-Client model potentials as well as qualitative factors which contributes in the decision to pay for electricity; assessed the sustainability of the sties for LV mini-grids from the settlement’s density and provide a draft distribution network design which covers at least 80% of the assessed demand. Finally, ASD provided recommendations for project implementation options for each locality including pointers towards productive use of the electricity generated.

ASD was hired by GIZ in 2017 to carry out feasibility studies for the sustainability of the implementation of solar hybrid-mini-grid projects in seven areas in Marsabitcounty. Those seven areas were: Olturot, Misa, Diridima, Ngurunit, Namarei, Lengimaand Dabel.
