The winners will each receive a $500.00 grant towards their continued education. The Awards are based on scholastic achievements, involvement in one or more parish ministries and participation in community service activities. Financial status is not a consideration.

Courtney Gertson, the daughter of David and Jennifer Gertson, will pursue Early Childhood Education with a minor in Psychology at Northern Arizona University.
Rebecca Waypa, the daughter of Mark and Jane Waypa, will attend Benedictine University of Mesa where she plans to major in Theology with a minor in Graphic Design.
Eligible candidates must be a practicing Catholic related to a Third or Fourth Degree Knight in good standing as defined by Supreme Council. The Scholarship Awards are named after a deceased Past Grand Knight, Sal Scordato who was instru-mental in starting the program in 1999. Since then, the Corpus Christi Knights of Columbus have awarded nearly $25,000 to qualified students.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Adoration: The Heart of the Church
St. Teresa of Calcutta and her sisters started every day with Eucharistic Adoration. When asked why, she responded, “We go to meet Christ in the
Eucharist before we go out to meet Him on the streets.” There are untold graces that come from Eucharistic Adoration. There are numerous stories of people, churches, and communities who have found extraordinary grace in the gift of Adoration—being in the presence of the very wellspring of grace Himself!

Thank You!
To the beloved parishioners of Corpus Christi Parish,
On behalf of my parishioners of the Mission Sagrada Corazon, I would like to convey my most sincere gratitude to you.
I have been out of the parish for almost 5 years now, yet it feels like yesterday and that you have never forgotten me. Your generous support for my appeal for the building of the Mission Church of Sagrada Corazon is a testimony of how you still remember me in spite that I am long gone. Your remembrance will leave a lasting impression on my priestly life as I continue to serve Him.
I have never been so overwhelmed in my priestly ministry of 26 years (not even in Ireland, er, I mean, in the Philippines) than by the support you have showered in my recent ap-peal to help me in my project. Your generosity is immeasurable and beyond my expectation. As I recorded the checks, it humbled me to see names that I never knew personally during my almost seven years as Associate Pastor of Corpus Christi. I might have known your faces and infrequently, your names, yet your generous support was without regard for our lack of a personal relationship. Your generosity is in-deed the epitome of love of neighbor, one of God’s great commandments.
As an act of thanksgiving to God who showered me with so much love, compassion, patience and friends, I will continue to offer novena masses for your intentions. Rest assured my obligation to pray for you will never cease as long as I am a priest of God.
Last but not least, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Fr Chad King for allowing me to conduct this appeal in behalf of my Mission. Your fraternal concern for your brother priest who is most in need of support is highly appreciated. I owe you one, Father Chad.
As of now, your donations amount to $87,196.59, but I am still counting because checks are still coming through mail.
May God continue to bless us all and keep us in His Sacred Heart. Vivat Jesus!!!
Servus Servorum Dei,
Fr Rafael L. Bercasio
RCIA — The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Adult Formation and Training in the Christian Way of Life and the Sacraments of the Church
Have you been searching for God in your life? Perhaps you have wondered if God exists and, if so, if you can be in relationship with him. Yes, you can. God has been pursuing you all your life and desires to draw close to you. In and through Jesus, and through the Catholic Church, you can enter into a lifelong personal relationship with God.
What is the RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation is for adults who, after having heard of the saving love of God, freely seek God and desire to live a life of faith in God and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. It is a spiritual journey whereby participants become acquainted with the Christian way of life through encountering the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church, along with acquiring a sense in which Jesus Christ saves us from our sins. RCIA involves encountering the Word of God, worshipping together, and serving others, all within the Church community. In a nutshell, RCIA is a time of formation and guidance aimed at training the participants in the Christian life, whereby they receive the sacraments of initiation.
Who is the RCIA for? Formation in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is for: • unbaptized adults who desire to become Catholic • adult Christians baptized in another faith who desire to become
Catholic • adult baptized Catholics who have not received the sacrament
of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) and/or have not been confirmed
• adult baptized Catholics who have completed the sacraments of initiation who desire to learn more about their Catholic faith
• spouses/significant others of any of the above are welcome
How long is the RCIA process? The process of Christian initiation varies from person to person according to the circumstances that surrounds his or her life. Therefore, the RCIA is suited to each person's spiritual journey.
By means of sacred rites celebrated at successive times, participants are led into the life of faith, worship, and charity belonging to the people of God. The formation process is a personalized spiritual formation program tailored to meet your needs and goals and the Catholic Church's expectations. Each person's circumstances are taken into account and therefore, nothing can be settled ahead of time.
To inquire or get started on this spiritual journey within the Church, please contact Kathy Egle at (480) 893-8770 x234 or [email protected].

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register? All Catholics living in the Parish area and regularly participating in the liturgy are invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance alone does NOT make you and your family registered members. Registration is required for Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage and Catholic Education programs.
Adults 18 and over need to be registered separately from their parents in order to get married, have their own children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors.
In order to be a Godparent or Sponsor or to receive discounted tuition rates at Catholic Schools, one must be a registered Catholic and active in the parish, which is indicated by use of contribution envelopes or the Online Giving program. Registration forms can be filled out in the Parish Office or via our parish website.
How do I have my child Baptized? Before scheduling the date, please call the Office for a welcoming conversation with the priest. A preparation class is also required for parents prior to the child’s Baptism and are offered once a month.
How do I request a Communion Call or Anointing of the Sick? Please call the parish office at 480-893-8770 DO NOT WAIT until someone is near death to have the person anointed! Although Anointing of the Sick was once known as “Last Rites,” waiting until a person is near death could risk that person not being able to receive the Sacrament if he or she should pass away prior to the priest being able to arrive. Anointing of the Sick can only be administered while the person is still alive.
How do I get married in the Church? The Diocese of Phoenix requires a NINE MONTH marriage preparation process. John Deg, Director of Married Life Ministries, will meet with you to explain the process, including when you will meet with the Pastor to set a date. Do NOT set the date prior to this meeting as it cannot be guaranteed until then.

The SVdP Water Drive will run from
July 7 –August 31, 2019.
Please consider helping. Any donation is appreciated.
Summer is here and the Arizona heat is quickly rising. Our triple digit summer temperatures are extremely challenging for many. Our parishes’ St. Vincent de Paul ministry (SVdP) is collecting bottled water and monetary donations for water to help those need. On the days with heat advisory warnings, the downtown SVdP campus and their Valley dining room facilities extend their hours to give homeless guests respite from the heat. However, many guests need to take bottled waters with them. SVdP water trucks are also dispatched to deliver water bottles throughout the valley to the homeless. Something as simple as water can help so many people survive our Arizona summers.
Beginning July 7, cases of bottled waters can be left in the vestibule of the church. Also for your convenience, there will be a donation box available, if you prefer making a monetary donation to be used toward additional water cases. Your generosity is a blessed gift, and we thank you for all your support!
