Ribbon Cutting & Dedication Mass – September 26, 2017

St. John Neumann Academy held it’s Official Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Mass and Classroom Blessing on September 26, 2017. Father Kevin Segerblom, the acting Vicar for the Western Vicariate; Father Anthony Senyah, SJNA school Chaplain; and Father John Asare, Pastor at St. Mary’s celebrated the Dedication Mass in the Knights Hall. The Superintendent of Schools for the Richmond Diocese, and SJNA Board of Governors, joined students, teachers, parents, for this special event. The Father James Burge Assembly 2707 provided an Honor Guard for the Dedication Mass.

Last September the Ground Blessings/Ground Breaking Ceremony was held where the school community gathered together under a huge white tent. In less than 11 months, the school building project, led by Lionberger Construction has resulted in a beautiful school in time for the 2017 school year. SJNA is located at 3600 Yellow Sulphur Road Blacksburg, Virginia.

Special thanks to the following Sir Knights who provided the Honor Guard: Sir Knights Claude Steele, Faithful Navigator; Nelson Carey, Arnold Bohanan Sr., Adam Cassol, Tommy Susano, Frank Gwazdauskas, Phillip Araman, and Donald Melia, Color Corps Commander.

Prayer of Saint John Neumann 1811-1860

Merciful Father, you have given me all that I have in this world, even life itself. In all my daily needs, help me to remember the needs of other too. Make me aware of the need to pray to You not just for myself but for the Church, the Pope for the clergy and for people who suffer any need. Make me selfless as Saint John Neumann was. Throughout my life, give me the grace to direct my first thoughts to the service of You and of others. Make my prayer ------“Your will be done” knowing that in Your mercy and love, your will for me is my sanctification. I ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen! Saint John Neumann, pray for us. Father Fox Council adopted Seminarian

Each year the Father Fox Council Sells Keep Christ in Christmas religious cards and magnets at St. Mary’s

Catholic Church. The proceeds go into the Father Prinelli Seminarian Fund. For the past and current fraternal

year we’ve adopted David Arellano. On September 19th, David celebrated his birthday.

David was born in Orange, California, but from an early age lived with his grandmother for eight years in

Mexico. When he was nine he moved to Rocky Mount, Virginia with his single mother and brother. He

graduated from Franklin County High School in 2015. As a member of the St. Francis of Assisi youth group

he began to feel a calling to the priesthood so during his senior year of high school, he began the application

process to enter seminary for the Diocese of Richmond. Five days after his high school graduation, he was

accepted by the diocese and shortly thereafter by St. John Paul II Seminary. He started his studies in the fall

of 2015! We look forward to supporting David and watching him grow closer to God as he continues his

seminarian studies.

The Christmas card display will be in the Narthex as you enter St. Mary’s beginning in November. You can

help support future priest by purchasing a magnet, Christmas cards or donating. Checks should be made out

to ‘Knights of Columbus” with FPSF in the memo line. For more info or any questions, please contact our

Financial Secretary Nelson Carey at [email protected] or (540) 382-2071

Pet Food and Fund Drive at Walmart

On Saturday September 16 from 10 AM to 6 PM the Knights of Columbus Father Fox Council 6747 held its

first Pet Food & Fund Drive to benefit the Humane Society of Montgomery County at Wal Mart in Christians-

burg. Because of the very active hurricane season this year, many abandoned animals are arriving in our

area. The Knights collected 729 lbs. of pet food; 57 lbs. of cleaning supplies; and $581.13. The local

Humane Society does not receive any tax dollars and is a no kill organization. Special appreciation to

Brother Knights: Mark Weaver; Claude Steele; Rafael Dall’Oglio; George Burroughs; Asa Weber; Tim

Leake; and Nelson Carey for their assistance in the success of this endeavor.

Brother Knight,

Today we are grateful. Because of you and your generosity, countless people in the Gulf Coast region have

found hope despite the horror of facing one of the strongest hurricanes the region has seen. We’re stunned

by the amazing efforts to help Texas, but a new disaster is now underway.

Hurricanes Irma & Maria have hit the Caribbean, packing winds at more than 180 mph. These storms have

been the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Atlantic. The United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico

and elsewhere have been heavily impacted.

The devastation is already catastrophic, and we once again urgently need your help. No gift is too

small . Every act of kindness shows the victims that they are not forgotten. We will stand by their side until

they recover. Please DONATE TODAY at Kofc.org for Disaster Relief donations. One hundred percent of the

proceeds will go directly to relief efforts.

Prayer For Our Nation (U.S.A.)

God our Father, Giver of life, we entrust the United States of America to Your loving care. You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for Your glory and dwell among Your people. Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation´s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind Your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing Your will. Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the "culture of death." Lead us into a new millennium of life. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney: The Father McGivney Guild promotes the cause for canonization of our founder: Father Michael J. McGivney. The goal of the Guild is to spread the good word about his holiness of life, to encourage devotion to his memory, and to seek his intercession before the throne of God. The Guild serves as a clearinghouse for information about Father McGivney, his life and works, and any favors attributed to his intercession. Father McGivney is a unique model for today’s Catholic and today’s Catholic priest because of his attention to the social ills and injustices of his day and his collaboration with the laity. He was zealous for the life of union with God through prayer and the sacraments, and he would have been right at home in today’s world. He was then and would be today an eager apostle for the Gospel of life, and a determined foe of the culture of death. There is no cost to join the Guild, but donations are welcome. For more information about the Guild or to donate go to: www.fathermcgivney.org

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney: God, our Father, protector of the poor and de-fender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Chris-tian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and build-ing up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAYER FOR THE SICK

Immaculate Mother. Blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe. Health of the Sick, your anointed heavenly

hands healed Juan Bernardino and brought us the River of Light, of Life, and of Health. Into your

heavenly hands I commend my faith, my hope and all my sufferings, please unite them to the Passion

of your Son, Jesus Christ, that they may serve as instruments of my salvation and the salvation of all

my brothers and sisters. From this moment on I accept all that the Sacred Heart of your Son may wish

to send me. I desire to complete in my life what is lacking to His Redeeming Passion. Oh Blessed Vir-

gin Mary of Guadalupe. I trust that you will give me the strength and all that I need to live with spiritual

health and if it serves God’s glory and my true well being, you will give me my physical health also.

Amen.

When we pray for others, we lift them up to God, seeking God’s grace and blessing in their individual situations. When we ask others to pray for us, we honor them with our trust. Please keep the following in Prayer: Holy Father Pope Francis, Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo (repose), Ryan (AKA Little Man) Linkous, Father Charles Breindel, Sir Knight Claude Steele, Sir Knight Dennis Jones, Sir Knight Pete Gwazdauskas, Sir Knight Ray Hoyt, Martha Hoyt, Evelyn Melia, Cheryl Knost, Judith Araman, Marie Armstrong, Mathias Baker, Seminarian David Arellano, Veterans, Service Men & Women, Persecuted Christians, Brother Carl Howell, Sir Knight PSD William DeBerry, Sir Knight Jim Glover (repose), Refugees, Provencher Family, Bob Gribben Sr., First Responders, Wyble Family, Joe Nieves, United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Florida, Texas, and Supreme Director Tommy Harger.
