Letter from the PublisherDecember is here at last, Christmas and New Years are

just around the corner. The entire fall season has been very mild and, with what were seeing of winter so far, maybe it’ll stay this way. This mild weather has been just what we needed in the motorcycle industry, so let’s hope it continues.

A word of caution however, as I’ve noticed in my travels around the state, the number of repair jobs in the bike and collision shops, many of them from deer. We don’t have to tell anyone how much damage a deer can do to a motorcycle and it’s rider. So use caution while riding and be aware. This is the time of year when these stupid animals, for no apparent reason, like to run into the middle of the road or into the side of a motorcycle.

Another thing we would like to mention is putting off fixing those last minute items. We have a lot of shops and dealerships out there that could really use the work this winter instead of everyone jamming the work down their throats the last week in Febuary and having to beg them to get it done so you can go to bike week. There are a lot of shops out there that offer free pickup and delivery during the winter months to keep themselves a float. So take advantage of it and help out your local shop at the same time.

Next month marks the tenth anniversary for FASTLANEBIKER magazine and a lot has happened over the past ten years from starting new franchises - Pennsylvania was first, then New York, and now Delmarva. All are doing a great a job and have become a trusted media source in their areas and will continue to be for years to come.

So till next time... Ride Safe!

END OF THE ROADThe SCC tour ended the 2010 season at the Lone Star-tRally Galveston Texas. This year John Greene, the same guy who puts on all of the Easyrider shows, ran the rally. The attendance seems to vary depending on who you ask, it’s somewhere between 50-200,000 people, regard-less the place was jumping. We set up with Rick Fatrless, Michael Ballard form The Full Throttle Saloon, Paul Yaffe, and the Martin Brothers. One of the cool things, or should I say funny things, that happened during the weekend was when Carlos Mencia, you know the guy from the Comedy Central TV show “Mind of Mencia” stopped by. Now to look at Carlos he doesn’t exactly fit the “Biker” stereotype but au contraire. Carlos owns a dozen bikes built by the Mar-tin Brother’s and he rides them. Because Carlos is from Galveston, he the man, and he was asked to lead the giant bike parade. To get prepared he sent one of his guys out

to get so fuel so he could top off some of his bikes. When you have a dozen bikes the privilege is to get to choose the one you want to ride. His “mechanic” lets just call him that, decided it was easier to find some fuel close by at the vending area than to go to the gas station. So he borrowed a gallon or two and proceeded to top off several of Carlos’s customs. Carlos came over and chat-ted it up with us and then got ready to lead the parade. The first bike he started, spit, kicked and blew smoke, the second did the same so did the third and fourth. Needless to say there was some real concern. Carlos was forced to ride his Suzuki-hyabousa that pretty much pissed him off. Later that evening we joined Carlos at his restaurant Maggie Rita’s Bar & Grill. He totally styled us out on the forth floor with a bottle of tequila and some awesome Mexican grub. At the restaurant Carlos graciously signed autographs and took pictures. After about an hour he came over to our table. Of course we wanted to know about his bikes. He simply paused, shook his head and said, “ the idiot who I sent to get fuel, got diesel fuel”. Well that’s all we needed to hear, and burst out laughing Carlos is a true biker and a great guy, who knew! I guess that’s why we keep doing what we do, the biker culture is all about meeting cool people from all walks of life that share our passion.

The tour schedule for 2011 is filling up fast. If you would like to book us, do it early because you’ll get a great discount, see our web site for details, www.stripclubchoppers.com. Also new for 2011 will be the Princess of The Pole, pole dancing competition. Promoters will

have the opportunity to organize a pole dancing com-petition that we will host. The winners will receive SCC merchandise and prizes, along with a spot on the 2012 SCC calendar. Why do the typical bikini contest Tour sponsorships for 2012 are also still available along with new SCC franchises’ for the west coast and Europe. I asked Mommy and DaddyWhy they was scared

After all I have been throughThese past few yearsThey tried to explain

The best way they couldThat they truly love meIt was for my own good

Not to see SantaRiding a Harley

This time this yearBut Mommy and Daddy

I tried to explainI have never seen Santa

Or his reindeerAnd I may not be here

This time next yearAlways was sleepingWhenever he came

Set out milk and cookiesBefore went to bed

Woke up with presentsUnder our tree

So why can’t I say thank youFor all that he did

Mommy and daddyWould not sign consent

So I watched from the windowBy my hospital bed

As Santa rode a HarleyThis time this year

With hundreds of presentsFor all of us kids

Then I saw mommy cryingIn the parking lot

Saw daddy huggingSanta ClausAnd then,

And then I heardA knock on my door

And then,And then I SAWSANTA CLAUS!

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!Chris Kringle exclaimed! My smile was grinning

From ear to earAnd Santa wipedAway my tears

As I sat on his lapHe asked what did I wantI said only to thank you

Santa ClausAnd my Mommy and Daddy

And all of your HarleysAnd my mommy and daddy

Most of all

NEW SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® THUNDER JET BLACK TOURING MUFFLERSNew Black-and-Chrome End Caps Can Add a Dramatic Finishing Touch

The new Screamin’ Eagle® Thunder Street Performance Slip-On Mufflers - Jet Black (P/N 65430-10, $399.95) from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories deliver an increase in torque and horsepower the rider can feel. For the first time, these mufflers can be fitted with dramatic Black with Chrome Spears End Caps (P/N 65100013, $149.95).

Developed to work with header-mounted catalysts, these 3.5-inch mufflers feature an open-baffle design that produces a rich, deep bass note that meets 50-state sound level requirements. The rich, black-ceramic coating offers unmatched durability and look perfect with Dark Custom styling elements. These easy-to-install slip-on mufflers make a pronounced styling and sound state-ment.

These mufflers fit 2009 California Touring models and 2010-later 50-state Touring models (except Trike and 110 cubic inch models). 2010 Street Glide and Tour Glide Custom models require the separate purchase of the Touring 2-into-2 Head Pipe Kit. Installation also requires the separate purchase of an end cap kit and muffler clamps. See an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer for fitment details.NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON SUPER REDUCED REACH® TOURING SEATPositions Rider Closer to Motorcycle Controls and Shortens Reach to the Ground

The new Super Reduced Reach® Seat - Touring (P/N 54382-11, $299.95) offers a forward position designed to move riders with a shorter inseam even closer to the controls than the Harley- Davidson Reduced Reach Seat. Its narrower nose area also allows the legs to be about one inch closer together so that feet may rest firmly on the pavement.

The scooped, bucket-shape saddle is enhanced with added back support padding to move the rider up to 2 inches lower* and 2.5 inches further forward. The combination positions the rider closer to the hand and foot controls to improve both comfort and confidence. The seat can be equipped with an optional rider backrest for added support and comfort. Seat width is 13.0 inches. Passenger pillion width is 12.0 inches. The Super Reduced Reach Seat fits 2009-later Harley-Davidson Touring and Trike models.

*Measurement based on 2009 Electra Glide® Classic original equipment seat. On some 2010 and all 2011 models the Super Reduced Reach Seat is 1.5 inches lower than the Electra Glide Classic original equipment seat.

NEW SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® 3.5-INCH SLOTTED MUFFLEREND CAPSOffered in Black or Chrome to Match Screamin’ Eagle Thunder Touring Mufflers

The new Screamin’ Eagle® 3.5-Inch Slotted End Caps (P/N 65100013 Black with Chrome Spears, 65100014 Chrome with Black Spears; $149.95) from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories enable the personalization of Screamin’ Eagle® Thunder Street Performance Slip-On Mufflers. Available in Chrome with black spears or Black with chrome spears, these easy-to-install, 3.5-inch caps are dressed with the same finish as the mufflers and exhaust shields for a consistent look front to back. Sold in pairs, the kit

includes all required mounting hardware.

NEW SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® STREET PERFORMANCE TUNERRecords Downloadable Run-Time Data and Enables Street-Legal ECM Calibrations

The new Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner (P/N 41000008, $329.95) is designed to simplify engine calibrations as EPA-compliant performance modifications are made to EFI-equipped Harley-Davidson models. The kit includes the Vehicle Communications Interface (VCI) module that records up to 15 minutes of run-time data on up to 27 variables that can be downloaded to a PC via an optional USB cable. Using the included software, the motorcycle owner or a tech-nician can evaluate engine operating parameters such as the air/fuel ra-tio, O2 sensor readings, engine speed and temperature, RPM and vehicle speed, throttle position, spark advance, and many more performance charac-teristics of the motorcycle. The VCI will also record and display service codes for troubleshooting and diagnostics.

With the Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer can install the latest ECM calibrations for a motorcycle’s legal state-of-tune for a minor labor fee. Start with a high-flow air cleaner and Street Performance mufflers, and the dealer can upload the calibration that provides the best performance mix. Add a Big Bore Stage I or Stage II kit later, and the dealer simply downloads the proper ECM calibration to match the model and hardware. Because the dealer will have on-line access to the latest factory calibrations, it can load the most up-to-date parameters whenever the motorcycle is serviced.

The Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner may be installed on 2007-later XL and XR Sportster, Dyna®, Softail® and Touring models (except Trike).

Okay, before anyone flips out, I did not forget the BSA project, cause I am still making stuff for it. And yes, I am taking pictures as I go. Next month we will get back to that bike. So the nun meets the grave digger in the cemetery….(sorry wrong article). So this bike comes in the shop, worked on it before, for a handlebar change. Okay, no big deal. Then the customer brings in the bars. All I could say was WOW. This guy went for the really big bucks and bought a set of climax custom controls bars. Man, let me tell ya, these bars are the ticket. If you are not familiar with their bars, you should be. Everything that you are used to being on the handle bars is still there, but it is built INSIDE the bar itself.

Throttle cables, wiring, switches, brake line, and a hydraulic clutch line, but best of all… The brake master cylinder and the clutch master cylinder is built inside the bar itself. This means you do not have or see a master cylinder for either brake or clutch hanging off the bars. All the switches are flush mount on the bar housing. Nothing is hanging out in the breeze. Smooth is the word. The craftsmanship on these bars are beautiful. But this kind of setup does have a price, and it is well worth it.

To get it all happening, first you gotta take the existing setup off the bike. This bike is an AMERICAN IRONHORSE which has nice shit on it to start. But they use a whole lot of wiring plugs to tie in all the control stuff at the bars, making it a little busier than it has to be, but I know why they do it. It is simple. You can isolate each control, and each switch for troubleshooting, and/or replacement without a lot of work. So the first thing you do is number all the plugs. In this case there are five. Take the time to make a legend of each plug, and the wire

HANDLEBAR SWAP... SOMETIMES NOT THAT EASY

color in each position in that plug, from both ends of that plug. Only because, as you go through this, you may find out that the wire color on both ends of the plug may not be the same. As in this case. A few of the after market bike companies do not always stick to the normal Harley wire color code. Sometimes it is close, but with different ignitions, different gauges, and the like, they have their own color code.

So, this is where the fun begins. On this bike, some of the color code is the same, some of it is not. Some have the same base color, but a tracer color that may throw you off. Now, the new bar setup seems to have a familiar color code, but with this really cool LED gauge assembly, now the colors change, and a couple new ones that really screw you up!!!

No problemo... They send you a wiring chart to help you with their changes, but you still gotta match that up with the wiring on the bike.

Not a problem. Put in a call to American Ironhorse, left the same message on three guys’ machines. Asked for a wiring diagram and color code chart for that bike by the serial number. Should be no problem if you can get someone on the phone or at least a return call. So now I’m hanging by my shorts waiting for the stuff I need. I can do it with out them, but it will take more time. A diagram and color code will get it done faster, if I can get it... if not , my old trusty meter

has not failed me yet.

So, what you see in the pictures are the plugs and the wires I have to deal with. So next time you want to change bars, don` think it is a one hour job. When you get to this level it is a lot of work. I am gonna be honest with ya, this is the first set of these bars I have installed, and it will be a learning experience, and I can`t wait to get more into it.

You have to take the bars apart to make the throttle cables up, and fill both master cylinders and to bleed them. Can’t wait to see what is in there and how they do it so we will get more into it next time. For now, I am going home. It is late again as usual and I am out of steam for today. If this damn rain ever stops, we can all go for a ride. I am riding to the next show in the Poconos, rain or shine, I don’t give a rats ass any more, gotta go.

See ya in church, if I ain`t there... Oh well...
