  1. 1. This summer, opt for a tribal accented choker, made of rough, polished beads, or a floralpendant made from scraps of paper, and flaunt them at the latest pool party, with panache. The demand for costume jewellery has never been higher, as more people acknowledge theoodles of style and chic that ooze out from the quirky and innovative designs, which areincorporated into the different ranges of cosmetic jewellery. The field of Fashion Jewellery is not new, and indeed, it has been conspicuously present. Thisperiod was known as the Art Deco period of costume jewellery. This period was characterisedby large, chunky pieces of jewellery, such as rings, cocktail earrings and ornately decoratedaccessories like cigarette holders. Then, there was the famous Retro Period between the years1935 and 1950.This period is still revisited from time to time, as people try out fashion jewellery in bright, neon colours, and floral patterns, coupled with elaborate designs that are implemented intothe pieces of jewellery in order to impress. Towards the end of the Retro period and thebeginning of the Art Modern Period, the styles became more compact and streamlined, ratherthan being too bold. There were newer materials incorporated into the making of costumejewellery, including rhinestones and Bakelite.Other dominant materials used in the making of costume jewellery include base metals, synthetic stones and semi-precious stones. The designing of these jewellery pieces can also bebrought about at home, by making necklaces out of beads strung together, or gluing units ofartificial stones on a base, in order to create a bracelet. The dominant trends this seasoninclude innovative, asymmetric patterns and whorls that are discernibly seen in pendants andearrings.Plastic jewellery is also sported by several people, what with bow-shaped lockets, and brightcoloured plastic anklets. Another feature includes the flexibility of this style of jewellery, as itlends itself quite easily, to any kind of material and design that a person comes up with.Costume jewellery has been in vogue for quite some time now, and holds promise for thefuture too.
