REVIEWS NICOLE RICHIE’S S/S 12 WINTER KATE AND HOUSE OF HARLOW 1960 COLLECTIONS ARE SET TO REIGNITE OUR BOHEMIAN SPIRITS. HOLLIE FURNISS REPORTS SIGNITURE STYLE NICOLE RICHIE, the renowned trendsetter and newly crowned ‘Influencer of the Year’ by the Accessories Council, has redefined the concept of the bohemian with her exquisite and prominent labels, Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960. The socialite’s S/S12 Winter Kate collection captures the essence of both the exotic and quirky with the use of subcontinent charm and 70’s retro spirit. After embarking on a journey to enchanting India, Richie injects her Winter Kate clothing line with an abundance of bejewelled luxurious fabrics in a majestic, saturated palette of saffron, lavender, camel and rose. A mergence of the burnt, scorching deserts and the soft, subdued sunset hues both existing in South Asia, integrated with Richie’s iconic boho-chic style. Intrinsic detailing and decadent beading evokes a feel of the handmade trinkets found in the Souks of Marrakech, whilst the celtic and mosaic prints juxtapose with the minimalism of some Far East influenced designs. Garments included in the collection range from a black suede jacket with fringing to an oversized, kimono-like printed silk in dusty pink. The distinct aesthetics are mirrored in Richie’s footwear too where snake, leopard and lizard skin embellish towering heels and comfortable flats, conveying a sense of the desert, jungle and vast plains that surround the foreign lands which inspired the designs for the Winter Kate collection. Her jewellery and sunglasses range from House of Harlow 1960 is an eclectic style recipe of bohemian heart, Egyptian motifs and Swedish design. Her Sunburst necklace cleverly marries masculine geometric shapes with a feminine, vintage feel whilst the gold textured cuff resembles the body and stance of an Egyptian serpent. No element of Richie’s designs are left to chance, everything either portrays past traditions or current cultures and there is always an aspect that resonates with her own signature ‘hippy’ style, which evidently in turn has gifted her with an eye for detail.
