Westgroupe/Ridgeway Opticah Fysh UK model F03552 is one of the newest additions to the spring collection. The deep, modified rectangle shape on this

stainless steel frame with a flat metal brow bar is feminine and sophisticated. The laser cut temple design resembles tiny beads. Available in orange/black, turquoise/

at 100% Optical with 12 models in six colours each, with the first neubau sunglasses collection to follow in October 2016.

The Optoplost Adman Eyewear ComponY's latest venture is the Walter and Herbert range of ophthalmic and sunglass collections. The made in England

brand includes an 11-piece sunglass range with iconic British names such as Florence Nightingale, Enid Blyton, Audrey Hepburn and Julie Christie. Each frame is in two

colours (except Nightingale in three). The Hepburn (pictured) is oversized with golden features in a subtle animal print.

OTHER LENS OPTIONS Last year Johnson & Johnson launched its 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL created with INTUISIGHT™ technology, where 183 uniquely optimised designs address the natural variations in pupil size according to age and refractive power. The company claims this contact lens delivers consistent vision performance for patients across the prescription range, from -9.00 to +6.00, and across the three add powers. In the same range there is also 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST for ASTIGMATISM. With Lacreon® J & J explain

that these are easy to handle, suitable for busy patients looking to wear them all day wanting sharp vision no matter wha they are doing. They are suitable for wearers who find their eyes feel dry, especially towards the end of the day or experience allergies that make contact lenses feel uncomfortable.

One of Aleen's most recent innovations also concentrates on moisture content. The DAILIES® AquaComfort Plus® family of contact lenses contain moisturising agents which are released at every blink, refreshing the tear film. DAILIES® AquaComfort Plus® contact lenses contain three moisturising agents including HPMC, a cushioning agent which coats the lens for easy application and excellent comfort at the start of the day and PEG-400, a wetting agent that releases moisture from the lens matrix via passive diffusion. The company claims it keeps lenses moisturised throughout the first few hours of lens wear and can be found in comfort drops like Systane® Ultra. PVA, a naturally

occurring moisturising agent in the lens matrix has a combination of long and short chain unbound PVA polymers that are released from the

lens with each blink for over 16 hours. Blink activated moisture also provides a stable tear film for good vision, comfort and successful contact lens wear.

Coopervision's aim is to encourage the transition of more patients into silicone hydrogel daily disposable lenses with its clariti® 1 day family of silicone hydrogel one day lenses with sphere, toric and multifocal options. The company says that its clariti® 1 day lenses feature high water content to support excellent all-day comfort. Wetloc ™ technology, coupled with the silicone hydrogel material, ensures the entire lens surface is continuously moist and mimics the moisture dispersion of naturally healthy eyes. In addition the lenses have a high oxygen transmissibility - which allows 100 per cent corneal oxygen consumption, helping to maintain ocular health.

POSITIVE MOVE Even if the jury is out on dry eye, there seems to be no doubt that the consumer loves these lenses and that can only be positive moving into the future. And, as Rolfe and Marchetti both point out, with increased research into new lens materials, manufacturers are increasing their high water content lens market all the time. "With the rise of consumers' usage of digital technology and the strain that this can place on our eyes it will be exciting as new innovative lenses are developed to address our new modern day challenges and needs," says Marchetti. •

Cat's eye frames have an interesting history and a long list of famous fans,

from Marilyn Monroe to Mary Whitehouse. In fact the sheer diversity of the people that wear them reveals much about their popularity. Whether you are an exquisite Audrey Hepburn or a larger than life Dame Edna Everage, these frames just work.

No wonder then that designers return time and time again to this extremely flattering style. This season is proving no exception with a flutter of catwalk appearances, from Gucci's Cruise collection for 2016, to Maschino and Dries Van Noten.

For Spring/Summer 2016, two key trends emerge; one is for rich shades of black, tortoiseshell, amber and chocolate, often with a more pronounced upsweep and a definite nod to vintage 50's shapes. The other is softer and less pronounced, a subtle interpretation of this style that should prove highly wearable. The favoured colour palette for these frames includes a variety of blues and sea greens, from deep navy through to turquoise.

Although brave men have worn cat's eye frames in the past (see Felix Lieter in an early Bond film for prooQ, currently this is very much a women's wear story, reflected in the proportions of the frames. Interestingly though, detailing is kept to a minimum, although some sides are made from metal contrasting an acetate front, to add a little vintage styling. +
