HistoryHistory
Kotuku was built in NZ in 1987 and shipped to the USA for the '91 Transpac (which she won). She was the first Farr 1220 in the USA and as such the show boat for a while. Kotuku wasactively owned, raced, professionally maintained. In 2003 she sold from California to a Brit whotook her cruising, then sold at an estate sale in 2008. That owner took her to Spain, thenacross to the Caribbean and put her up for sale in Trinidad. The current owners convinced himto deliver the boat to FT Lauderdale, where they bought it and shipped it here to the PacificNorthwest in 2010. The boats blog has a pretty good history of what she has done since then.(Pac Cup, Van Isle, Oregon Offshore, Southern Straits, Round the County, etc.) The currentowners have cruised her actively, alongside of all the racing they have done, with annual trips tothe Gulf Islands, Desolation, PT/PA, and the South Sound.
The Current owners have had the hull stripped, epoxy barrier coated, and bottom paint sprayedon and burnished and Thru-hulls replaced. Last bottom job was fall 2014 with all bottom workbeing done at CSR Marine. Kotuku also received new rudder bearings 2012.
Her original auxiliary was replaced in the UK, sometime between 2006-2008, with a VolvoMD2040 with Saildrive, Gori prop. Unfortunately she doesn't have an hour meter so we have noclue how many hours are on it. Yet the auxiliary is serviced regularly, last oil change this fall,2015
The standing rigging has been replaced or dye checked and all running rigging replaced in last3 years. The Harken Carbo foil is currently on headstay, but Kotuku does have a Harken Furleravailable.
Her electronics/instruments are Garmin and the instruments were installed in 2012, includingthe primary GPS/chartplotter at the helm that is linked to wind/speed/depth. Raymarinesecondary GPS/Radar was left at Nav station (not networked). There is wi-fi link to NMEA dataas well so apps can run race software using the instrument information. Silva mast instrumentsdo not work and should be replaced or removed.
Stove is 2014 Force 10 2 burner w/oven, new solenoid, 2ea 5 gal propane tanks. Boat came tothe Pacific Northwest with Espar heating, but the current owner removed it as it was too heavyand never worked consistently enough for them to enjoy its warmth.
