Being the port of the capital, the Port of Tórshavn is the largest and busiest harbour in the Faroe Islands. As a thriving port with a truly international outlook, the port of Tórshavn offers an unrivalled concentration of quality maritime services and expertise. The port of Tórshavn has focused on the Faroese container traffic and roll-on/roll-off ferry traffic and has experienced an increase in calls from cruise ships as well.

In recent times, a process of consolidation has led to several smaller neigh-bouring municipalities being incorporated into the capital; consequently, more than 40% of the Faroese population lives within the municipal bound-aries. As a result of the amalgamation, the operating area of the port of Tór-shavn has increased significantly and now also includes harbour facilities at Sund, Kollafjørður and Oyrareingir. The four harbour areas directly controlled by the port of Tórshavn are the best served in the Faroe Islands and are the only Faroese harbours to be manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This gives us a great deal of flexibility and allows us to find the best solutions for our customers. Additionally we have yet to experience a close-down due to weather conditions.

Faroese Telecom’s SeaNet gives you the opportunity of a fast Internet connection on board your ship.

“Our goal is to provide the same level of modern telecommunication opportunities to the ships that sail in Faroese waters as we provide to people on land,” says Hans Jákup Langgaard, head of corporate business at Faroese Telecom.

A few years ago, Faroese Telecom set up five broadcasting stations capable of transmitting mobile broadband to all of the Faroese territorial waters. Ships or boats that want broadband from Faroese Telecom are required to set up an outdoor antenna capable of receiving the 3G+ signal, which is then distributed around the vessel.

This wireless broadband set-up provides speed up to 7 Mbps. SeaNet runs on 900 MHz, which allows for increased broadband speed up to 70 miles out to sea. This means that SeaNet is a great advantage for ships, shipping companies and crews.

“The broadband offers improved communication between ship and shipping company. The distance will be no greater than between work places on shore, and the crew can maintain direct contact with their families and friends,” says Hans Jákup Langgaard.

The fully modern Faroese telecommunication network reaches every corner of the islands, and Faroese Telecom now operates three sub-sea cables connecting the islands to the world. In recent years, Faroese Telecom has expanded its activities to providing fibre connection to oil rigs west of the Shetlands and in the North Sea.

FOÍB (Faroes Oil Industry Group), as the organisation representing the oil companies with exploration licences in the Faroes, is pleased to note the increased use of Faroese goods and services by the oil and gas industry.

FOÍB members take a particular satisfaction from this trend as it reflects a positive result from their investment in the Faroese competence development programme. This has been undertaken as part of the license holders’ obligation to promote full local participation in the industry.

Through this, Faroese firms have been assisted to become fully equipped not only to face future challenges on home ground but also in neighbouring sectors.

FOÍB would like to commend this initiative to make the range of goods and services now available from Faroese firms more widely known. As customers for many of the firms featured in this brochure, our member companies can vouch for the fact that the products on offer meet the highest international standards.

KEMILUX is a Faroese company that since 1967 has offered a growing range of quality detergents/cleaning agents for an industrial or marine environment.

Kemilux has had great success over the years selling S-1 EXTRA for heavy duty cleaning. S-1 EXTRA cleans all ships surfaces from the machine room to the bridge. Kemilux has further developed this noteworthy clean-ing agent to live up to the requirements of the Danish Veterinary Director-ate, so that it also can be used in  the manufacturing machines of the food industry. This approved heavy duty  cleaning agent is called S-2 EXTRA.

Close interaction with the Faroese fishing industry has been and still is a driving force for Kemilux in the development of its products.

A wide choice of cleaning products can be obtained from Kemilux, from heavy duty cleaning agents of ship’s decs to specific products specifically developed for the demanding food processing industry.

Kemilux supplies RUST SOLVENT and RUST WASH for outside mainte-nance. Rust stains on painted surfaces can be treated and rinsed off with water. This is a great advantage on board ships and elsewhere, where maintenance requires a lot of manpower.

On all modern fishing boats, there are all types of cleaning requirements that can only be dealt with by a modern product range. This is what Kemi-lux unfailingly delivers.

Atlantic Supply Base (ASB in short) is a Faroese owned oil industry and Logistics Company. It is located in Runavík on Eysturoy – the second largest island, a one-hour drive from Vagar airport. This makes ASB an ideal collaborator in operations West of Shetland and the Northern North Sea.

The company’s main objective is to provide integrated offshore supply base services to Oil Companies engaged in offshore exploration in the North Atlantic. This includes quayside handling, storage facilities, Dry and wet Bulk Plant, Maritime Agency services and all-round human resources. There is no tide at the ports, which are open all year round. The entrance depth at our port is 20 meters.

Established in 1999, ASB is one of the most experienced partners of the oil industry in the Faroes. When the Faroe Islands first started out in oil expeditions in 2000, ASB played a major role in establishing the Faroe Islands as a significant force in the international oil industry, and the company has continued to grow ever since, expanding its base of operations beyond Faroese waters to the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS).
