FARMING TOUR TO GERMANY Including Rhine River Cruise & John Deere Factory

11TH - 18TH MAY 2013

Day 1 Monday 11th May (--D) Flight from London or Manchester to either Dusseldorf or Cologne. Meet your English speaking tour guide and luxury coach and transfer to the city of Cologne, enjoy a city tour before checking in to your city ho-tel for 1 night. Dinner in a local restaurant in the ‘Old Town’.

Day 2 Sunday 12th May (BLD) Breakfast and transfer to St Goar, embark on one of the traditional Rhine cruise liners for your trip to Bingen. En-route you will pass the Lorelei Cliff, or Murmuring Rock - which marks the narrowest point of the river that runs between Switzerland and the North Sea. With large vineyards on all sides and castles built strategically along this important trade route - you will experience one of the most spectacular river tours in Europe whilst enjoying coffee and cakes. After disembarking you will visit a local winery for lunch and wine tasting. Transfer by coach to Heidelberg to check in to your hotel for a 2 night stay. Dinner at the hotel. Day 3 Monday 13th May (B-D) Breakfast and transfer to a farming enterprise that specialize in the pro-duction of citrus fruits and almonds. This part of Germany has a unique climate for central Europe that makes the growing of citrus fruit possible - the fruit is sold direct to the public with some used to produce traditional German ‘schnapps’ and fruit juices on the premises. Enjoy lunch in the wonderful town of Neustad at own expense with some free time to look around and shop. Visit a farm growing asparagus and a variety of soft fruit crops, which also has a farm shop before visiting a winery for dinner with tastings. The vineyard produces both red and white wines and has a tavern with accommodation on site. Return to hotel for overnight.

Day 4 Tuesday 14th May (BL-) Breakfast and transfer to the John Deere factory for a tour of both the production facilities and the museum. The factory was established in 1921 and is the biggest facility outside of the USA, with 46 hectares and 2,700 employees. Lunch at the factory. After lunch drive to the beautiful town of Rothenburg, located on the ‘Romantic Strasse’ in Ba-varia – journey time 2 hours 30 minutes. Stop en-route at a family run micro brewery for a light snack and beer tasting. Check in to your hotel for a 3 night stay. Free evening.

Day 5 Wednesday 15th May (BLD) Breakfast and transfer to a Biogas plant that is operated by a farming co-op, producing the feedstock and supplying energy direct to the local community. Germany is over 20 years ahead of the UK in renewal en-ergy production and farmers are viewed as genuine energy producers, with feed-in tariffs (FITS) and business loans a normal part of farm business management. Visit to a turkey hatchery with 3 million birds that are supplied to turkey farms throughout Europe. Visit a dairy farm that has diversified into curd, yoghurt and cheese production. Lunch at the farm. The final visit of the day is to a cattle breeding operation with 350 bulls, where they grow much of their own feedstock from grassland and arable crops. Enjoy a barbeque dinner with the family before re-turning to your hotel for overnight.

Day 6 Thursday 16th May (BLD) Breakfast and transfer to a pig unit that produces pork products for the food industry. Lunch in a local restaurant before visiting an estate farm, formerly the property of the Earls of Hoehenlohe. The land is used for cereal and seed production.
