• After the basic course (usually for a child, as a primer) on Islam following the “Islam-Iman-Ihsan ” paradigm, the subsequent lessons on the Fardhu ‘Ain would be to re-visit those topics again, but with an increase in depth and detail with a view to strengthen faith, and to motivate commitment and adherence.

Background information about this course:

• This too would be in accordance with the Muslims intellectual level of development viz. as youth, as adults, lay man, professionals, etc. Thus a different (specific) curriculum for each group would be best.

• This too would be in accordance with the Muslims intellectual level of development viz. as youth, as adults, lay man, professionals, etc. Thus a different (specific) curriculum for each group would be best.

• In fact the youth at different stages may even require a different curriculum viz. Those in school, in tertiary institutions, in NS, working life, pre-marriage, etc.

• Unfortunately, our community tends to adopt a single generic curriculum of Fardhu ‘Ain development, which traditionally would develop a Muslim into a scholar (a specialist) of the Deen.

6

• Thus we would have “Aqeedah – Fiqh – Akhlaq / Tasawwuf ” (core subjects) as the follow-up curriculum subjects from the “Iman-Islam-Ihsan ” primary paradigm.

7

• Thus we would have “Aqeedah – Fiqh – Akhlaq / Tasawwuf ” (core subjects) as the follow-up curriculum subjects from the “Iman-Islam-Ihsan ” primary paradigm.

• This approach has traditionally been the norm, with well-written textbooks as curriculum manual, available. And, for those who can follow, this approach is best.

8

• And as an educator, I have already developed my “Intermediate Islam (English)” using this traditional approach which, as I understand, is to develop a ‘Faqih ’ (a Muslim who has profound understanding of the Deen, i.e. an Islamic scholar).

• Yet the curriculum requires long duration for the students to complete, and has to be approached topically according to subjects – because this curriculum was designed for full-time intensive studies.

• When students today can only afford to attend classes once or at most twice weekly, many students wanting to continue acquiring Fardhu ‘Ain knowledge, would not be able to easily follow this curriculum.

• When students today can only afford to attend classes once or at most twice weekly, many students wanting to continue acquiring Fardhu ‘Ain knowledge, would not be able to easily follow this curriculum.

• Also those knowledge which they need to know, may be delayed due to this approach which tends to cover topic according to subjects, sequentially, not according to priority of needs for the Muslim.

• As a teacher, there are many of my students waiting to further their studies in Fardhu ‘Ain lessons but may not aspire to be specialist of the Deen, only to be educated sufficiently so they can fulfil their obligations as Muslims.

• AlHamdulil-laah, previously, I had embarked upon a new approach,, to address this shortcomings so that a simple yet adequate approach to teach Fardhu ‘Ain for adult Muslims in general can be given (adequately) to everyone – meeting their general needs for relevant knowledge, not confined to only one topic but widely grouped into a subject on “ADAB ”, pertinent to their current developmental stages in life as a Muslim.

Background information about this course:

• Course title: “Lessons on Islamic AdabLessons on Islamic Adab.”

“Adab ” is synonymous with “’Adl’“ (justice) and “Ihsan ” (best conduct), for the absence of “Adab ” denotes injustice (zulm) .....

And the entire Education in Islam traditionally can be termed as “Ta’dib”(inculcation of ADAB).
