Masters in Chemistry for Medicine Development

As a child living in a world of fantasy, I wished to learn and practice magic. Eventually I was taught that magic does not exist. It was later that I realised that what was once known as magic is now understood as chemistry.

My final year project was based on personal care, where I formulated a titanium dioxide cream complex. The complex was analysed under Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that titanium dioxide could be used as an alternative main ingredient in deodorants.

Systagenix Wound Management Ltd, Gargrave Jul 2015 – CurrentQuality support (Full-time)

As a quality support analyst I am solely responsible for managing and testing stability studies. This involves Titration, pH testing, Loss on Drying, Absorption and various other wet chemistry techniques. Furthermore my role also involves weekly equipment calibration of the stability cabinets, ensuring all stability studies are stored under the set optimal conditions. My duties also include a series packaging assessments, seal and peel strength Instron testing, as well as blue dye assessment.

I have undertaken additional responsibilities to enhance my capability as a quality support analyst. This has allowed me to gain experience in quality assurance. I am adept at method validation, generation of risk assessments, COSHH forms and equipment validation. I have written experience in report writing for numerous stability studies as well a NCR and fault log forms for non-compliance results.

I have gained a firm understanding of cGP and GDP, which has allowed me to work safely and efficiently in a busy laboratory environment. My current role as a Quality support analyst has allowed me to work under my own initiative, as I am directly responsible for managing and planning my own work, ensuring I accomplish the required responsibilities in the given time frame for each stability study.

Tesco Ltd, Halifax Mar 2008 – Jul 2015Customer assistant (Part-time)

I am assigned various responsibilities at Tesco’s. I primarily work as a checkout assistant. However, I have been given leadership over the checkout team where it is my duty to distribute breaks and jobs between my colleagues. I used this opportunity to improve my time management skills, as breaks have to be allocated without indirectly affecting queue length. I have also learnt how to successfully manage a team to meet company targets. Thus, further enhancing my leadership qualities.

Skills

Laboratory Skills - I am well versed in writing up reports of my experimental analysis and over the past few years, I have covered a wide array of analytic techniques ranging from Recrystallization, FT-IR Analysis, NMR, GC-MS, Mass Spectrometry, UV Analysis, PXRD Analysis, Reflux, Distillation and Chromatography. I am competent at conducting procedures in a safe and practical manner via the generation of COSHH forms prior to any work I carry out.

My current duties revolve around the handling and sampling of medical dressings. Part of my routine testing includes, Titration. This is to measure the amount of Iodine present within the dressings. This ensures that the dressings comply within the required specification. An additional key aspect of my position is to assess the adhesive peel and seal strength of the dressings by using an Instron instrument.

Communication – As a checkout assistant, constantly serving customers either over the counter or helping them on the shop floor, I have developed commendable communication skills I have also delivered several engaging presentations to colleagues during my time at university.

Teamwork – Throughout work and university I have enhanced my communication, discussion and negotiation skills from working with others. These skills are essential in reaching a uniform goal as efficiently as possible, while maintaining group harmony with the final outcome. Having worked in Tesco’s I can say team spirit and unity are the key attributes to success.

Improving Learning & Performance – I am always learning new skills that will improve my performance. Using certain techniques efficiently, I can reach my goals faster, whilst maintaining a high quality service. As a customer assistant and a checkout operator at Tesco’s, I was taught how to use unfamiliar software on the self-service checkouts. I learnt all the procedures of the software in mere hours and I became a very efficient user of the software.

Accuracy – I am able to carry out procedures with utmost accuracy. This was developed at my time at Nestle and was further enhanced as a self-service manger. I am able to work at a fast and efficient rate while maintaining good precision. As self-service checkouts demand constant attention and accuracy to positively deal with customer requirements. Other Skills - Hold a full clean driving licence. I also have a Laser Safety certificate (2014).

Activities and Interests

In contrast to my working life, I am a sociable modern-day geek. In my free time I enjoy reading, blogging, working on m fitness, gaming and spending time in the company of my friends and family.
