    SMUs Directorate of Distance Education (SMU DDE) has commenced admissions to all approved programs pursuant to the Order of the Hon'ble High Court of Sikkim (in WP No. 4 of 2013) dated 22.2.2013, by which the Hon'ble Court has permitted the University to continue acting in terms of its earlier recognition, namely, recognition dated 15.10.2009 granted by DEC. 2) Will this enrollment be valid? Yes, SMU DDE has commenced admissions to all approved programs pursuant to the Order of the Hon'ble High Court of Sikkim (in WP No. 4 of 2013) dated 22.2.2013, by which the Hon'ble Court has permitted the University to continue acting in terms of earlier recognition, namely, recognition dated 15.10.2009 granted by DEC. As such, all admissions granted are valid. 3) Why is the university not enrolling students in BA, BCom, MA and MCom? The Hon'ble Court has permitted the University to continue acting in terms of earlier recognition, namely, recognition dated 15.10.2009 granted by DEC. The University is evaluating the structure of the Arts and Humanities programs and will revert with the final program structure shortly. Till then, no new admissions are being taken in the Arts and Humanities streams. 4) Has DEC granted fresh approval to SMU DDE programs? By when is DEC expected to grant fresh approval for SMU DDE programs? - SMUs application to DEC for renewal of its earlier recognition dated 15.10.2009, is pending with DEC since July 2012, for the visit of the expert committee to inspect SMU and grant continued

  • recognition. SMU is following up with DEC on a regular basis. Students will be kept informed on the status as and when the inspection happens and continuation of the earlier recognition is granted. Until such time, SMUs Directorate of Distance Education (SMU DDE) has commenced admissions to all approved programs pursuant to the Order of the Hon'ble High Court of Sikkim (in WP No. 4 of 2013) dated 22.2.2013, by which the Hon'ble Court has permitted the University to continue acting in terms of its earlier recognition, namely, recognition dated 15.10.2009 granted by DEC. 5) Are the degrees valid for students already enrolled in Arts and Humanities programs? Students already enrolled will graduate because the Programs, being UGC-approved ones, have been approved by the University's Senate and have been submitted to the DEC for a formal approval. Under normal circumstances, DEC visits and approves Programs pending for approval also, in addition to giving continuation of Approval for existing programs.
