With ‘keeper Joe Harding sus-pended for one match, the big news of the day was always going to be the debut, in goal, of Youth Teamer Tom Betts who only turned 17 last month. He was properly tested by Chipstead and had the answers each time, especially getting down so quickly to deflect the ball away at his near post, the score then being 1-0, probably a very important stop.A dramatic first few minutes to the

game saw Chips No.9 Denver McKen-zie sent off for violent conduct after leaving Nick Fogden on the ground for some time getting treatment to his chest. The game remained goaless until almost the stroke of halftime, when Lloyd Cotton forced his way past sev-eral defenders to get to the goalline and then towards goal, firing at the narrowest of gaps to shoot the ball high into the Chipstead net.

In the second half the crowd en-joyed Burgess Hill’s passing game, Hill gaining control of the game through Steve Harper’s assured finish on about 70 minutes. and a few minutes later substitute Dar-ren Boswell adding the 3rd for his second goal of the week.

player of the year

After counting all the votes there was an out and out winner, Joel Harding! After accumulating the highest number of clean sheets of a

hillian goalkeeper for 20 years and playing more games for the hill this season than any other player Joel is a worthy winner!

well done hill u18

Congrats to the youth for their Ryman youth League and County cup double. A fine achievement for one of the youngest squads in the league. A great achievement, and they’ve had some brilliant wins along the way. I hope we can keep hold of some of the lads as they get older and closer to first team foot-ball - difficult when you are not

running a reserve side. It’s a big step up if called upon to play in the Ryman League. Any side north of Redhill always appear a little more streetwise and our younger players get overawed quite naturally.I’m sure if anyone can see talent emerging it will be Ashley Carr and his playing experience will be a fine asset.

This publication will be a hard back professionally

bound a4 piece. Instead of creating a certain amount and selling them first come first serve, I will take or-ders online through the usual Fan-zone email address. The price of this one off annual will be £10 and it will include all the best images, stories and match reports from this season. All those interested email [email protected]
