You will also need:24” x 44” batting

- Read through all of the instructions before beginning.- All of the seam allowances are 1/4” unless otherwise noted.- Press seam allowances open unless otherwise noted. - Width of fabric (WOF) is equal to at least 42” wide.- Right sides together has been abbreviated to RST.- Remember to measure twice and cut once!

Note: Quilt the fabric before you cut out the pieces. To do this, create a quilt sandwich with the Fabric A and B yardage. Quilt as desired, then proceed with cutting.

From Fabric A (the quilted panel), cut:two of the Featherweight pictures, cutting 1/8” outside the black line. Be sure to curve the top corners.

two 9” x 18” rectangles from the red portion of the panel. Note: You will be cutting and then sewing these pieces back together in the same place. When you put binding on this seam it creates an easy spot to grab and pull the cover off.

From Fabric C (the quilted panel), fussy cut:2” x length of fabric strips for the binding, enough for 55” of binding. This portion will be used on the bottom edges of the cover. Sew together to form one long strip. Do not fold or press the strip until instructed in the assembly steps below. Tip: The sample uses a fussy cut a strip that contains the Singer words centered on the fussy cut strip, and a decorative pattern above and below the words.

1-1/2” x length of fabric strips for the binding, enough for 90” of binding. This portion will be used on the top and side edges of the cover. Sew together to form one long strip. Fold in half and iron with wrong sides together. Open up and fold over each side (close to 1/4”) and iron.

Step 1: Sew the two red panel pieces together, short ends and wrong sides together. Cut a short length from the binding fabric and bind this short length. Trim the binding flush with the edges of the panel piece. This will now be referred to as the gusset.

Assemble the Cover

Sew two red pieces with wrong sides together.

Attach binding to cover seam.

Step 2: Fold the front Featherweight panel in half to finger press a crease at the top center of the panel. Place the binding/center seam of completed gusset unit at the crease, wrong sides together. This will make the seams stick out, which will be covered by the binding. Pin along the top, left and right sides of the front panel, curving the gusset as you round each corner. You will have excess from the ends of the gusset left at each end. Sew the gusset to the front panel. Trim the ends of the gusset to be even with the front panel.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 with the back Featherweight panel, pinning at the center, then the ends and then pinning in between in several places.

Step 4: Bind the left, right and top edges of the front and back panels with the 1-1/2” wide binding strips cut from Fabric C.

Step 5; Bind the bottom edges of the cover with the 2” wide strips of binding cut from Fabric C. Fold the top edge of one of the decorative strips along the edge to the inside (wrong sides together) and press so that the word Singer is seen on the right side. Press the bottom edge to the wrong side by 1/4”.

Fold along red lines

Step 6: Pin and topstitched to the cover so that the Singer words are just above the bottom of the cover. Begin at the back of the cover, near a corner, then fold the raw edge of the tail in by 1/2” to hide the raw edges where the binding meets. Tuck the bottom edge of the binding strip to the inside of the cover hand stitched it in place.
