and traded with others. They also were like pirates but from the north. They robbed cities in Europe, everyone was very scared of them. All that happened in over 1000 years ago. Later on they became Christians, that was the end of the Vikings.

Stockholm’s sea traffic 1600-1800At the year 1618–1648 there was a war called “The Thirty Year

War” between Protestants and Catholics. In that point Sweden was also at its most powerful age ever. Sweden controlled a large area around the Baltic Sea. They became rich when people came to sell stuff to Sweden because they had to pay toll fees to sell their stuff.

At 17th century Sweden dominated many trades by sea. At 1723 Sweden had only 100 ships coming to Sweden and at 1800 Sweden had 685 ships there. That is a 40% increase and that’s how they earned money.

FishingBecause Sweden is surrounded by seas and in Sweden

there are many lakes, so fishing is a big hobby for many. In Sweden you need a license to fish in some parts of the

sea or in some lakes. If you don’t have a license the sea police have the right to take your fishing gear.

In winter time many enjoy ice fishing, first you drill a hole in the ice and then you just wait for a fish. Usually they just get small fish but sometimes you can get lucky and catch a big fish.

• In the city center of Stockholm you can fish salmon. And this fish was caught outside the opera house, it was weight 10.7 kg.
