DOLORES IBARRURI
• Dolores Ibarruri ( called Pasionaria ) was born in Gallarta 9th December 1895.
• She was a Spanish Republican leader of the Spanish civil War.
• Dolores fought for the women's and worker‘s rights.

FAMILY BACKGROUND AND EARLY LIFE
• When she was 15, her parents were very poor so she had to leave school.
• Then, Dolores started working as a seamstress and maid.
• Two years later, she married a leading miner.

POLITICAL ACTIVISM
• At the age of 20, she started fighting for the workers´ rights and joined the PCOE (Spanish Communist Party).
• In 1933 she became the president of the newly founded Union of Antifascist Women .
• She was imprisoned a lot of times because of her strong speeches and the big demonstrations she organized. She became very famous.

THE EXILE• When the Spanish Civil War finished, she
went to exile in Russia. There, Dolores continued as the leader of the PCE (Spanish Communist Party) until 1960, when she resigned that position.

BACK TO SPAIN
• When Franco, the Spanish dictator, died in 1975, she was back to Spain and chosen again as a representative of her party in a democratic election.
• She died in 1986, when she was 93 years old.
• All her achievements are part of our history now.
