Mountains of Asia and surrounding regions. Best of all, your museum visit is family-friendly: here, you can borrow activity packs for kids, bring strollers into the galleries and learn fun facts from cheerful museum educators.

“We’re so excited when very young people want to come and see the art,” says Aoife Pacheco, Early Childhood & Family Learning Manager at the Rubin Museum of Art. “Everyone is super friendly to the youngest visitors.”

Free Family Activities

A wonderful way to get to know the museum is by checking out the drop-in workshops – they feature excellent activities for kids and are free for all Cool Culture members.

Join other families for interactive tours, art projects, and more! You and your little ones are sure to have fun,

even if you have never been to a museum before.

“We love to have all different families,” Ms. Pacheco explains, “And if it is their first time in a museum, that is just as great!”

Awesome Education Center

Play movement games in the Drum Beats & Little Feet workshops (every Friday from 11:00 a.m. - noon, ages 3-5) or relax during storytime in the Yak Packers Early Childhood Art Making classes (every Wednesday & Thursday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., ages 2-4) for educational and fun family time. Plus, explore paintings, sculptures and objects in the museum and create your own artwork at Family Art Labs (every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - noon, ages 5+).

All drop-in workshops are held in the museum’s brand-new education center – this inviting space is filled with cheery colors, plenty of light, and lots of room!

Cool Family Celebrations

Join Cool Culture and friends at the upcoming Family Day: Himalyan New Year Celebration for live music,

Exploring art is exciting and easy at this museum, which is filled with bright paintings and interesting objects from the Himalayan

scavenger hunts and more on Saturday, February 25th. It’s free for all Cool Culture members!

“Family day is the most fabulous day,”Ms.Pacheco says. “We go all out – there

are activities everywhere!”

The festive day will feature lots to see and do in the galleries and education center. Journey through the museum on a storytelling adventure, make special flags filled with wishes, create art to wear home at a button-making station, help with a giant sand art project, check out traditional butter sculptures, and even taste butter tea (see page 5 for more info).

Fun Cultural Connections

And don't be shy about sharing your own culture during this tradition-filled day! Swing by the education center to trace your family's roots on huge maps created just for the celebration.

Bringing cultures together is an important part of this museum on any day you decide to visit!

“We want to connect the culture that we're sharing to all the cultures of the people who come to visit,” Ms. Pacheco says.

Find out about faraway places like Nepal and India at the Gateway to Himalayan Art exhibition. Borrow a museum

magnifying glass and see what detailed patterns you can spot in the sculptures, paintings and instruments.

Play more learning games at the Modernist Art from India: The Body Unbound exhibition, which is filled with bright paintings of people in different settings. Practice colors and shapes, count fingers and toes, and find the animals hiding in some of the artwork.

Insider's Tip

Make your museum adventure more interactive by asking about Yak Packs and touch carts at the front desk – they are free to borrow and great for kids!
