Summer Food Service Program Provides children, 18 and

under, access to free nutritious meals when school is out. To

Urgent: Youth A free career training program for youth,

ages 18-24, through Nassau Community College-Center for

Workforce Development. The training prepares youth for in

• 12th Annual Stand Up for the Homeless This event will be held Wednesday, August 28th from 10-2pm

November) a meeting is held at CDCLI for the FSS

Program called the Program Coordinating

Committee(PCC) Meeting. We welcome FSS

Participants to become a member of the PCC. The

meetings provide the opportunity to network and

learn about service updates and new programs that

could help you achieve your FSS goals. Community

organizations such as PSEGLI, Department of

Labor, Catholic Charities attend the meetings. As a

PCC member there would be no pressure to speak

at the meetings but we would welcome your

making your cooling system work that much harder.

High efficiency LEDs bulbs are cool to the touch,

2. If your system is older or in need of repair,

consider contacting REAP or the HEAP Cooling

Assistance Component (please see page 2). These

FREE programs may upgrade those eligible to an

energy efficient ENERGY STAR® certified unit.

3. Turn off bathroom and kitchen ventilation fans

about 10 minutes after their job is done to keep them

from pushing cooled air out of your house.

4. Install a door sweep on your garage door to seal

the gap between the bottom of the door and the

threshold. The door sweep prevents warm air from

coming in and cool air from escaping your home.

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is a FREE voluntary program for

CDCLI Housing Choice Voucher participants that provides:

• One-on-one case management

• Links to community resources such as childcare, education, job training, financial

education and coaching, etc.

• Potential to earn an escrow savings. This is a cash savings account put aside

by NY State based on increases in your household earned income.

• Potential for voucher homeownership

• On-line quarterly newsletter with valuable resources & articles
