St. Luke’s seeks to build God’s Kingdom by helping believers to develop a covenant relationship with God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—that will enrich our daily lives and equip us for service to others

The World and the Way

A number of months ago I did a ‘road-

trip’ (or sometimes more of a ‘track-trip’)

through the Northern Cape, and I

experienced the drought first

hand. Seeing numerous carcasses of wild

animals that had starved was

sobering. Antelope lethargic from hunger

opened ones eyes. The absolute

necessity of rain and water was glaring.

Our society is barren of meaning and

hope and vision for tomorrow. As Amos

warned “I will send a famine through the

land — not a famine of food or a thirst

for water, but a famine of hearing the

words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11). As God’s

children we have the ‘water of life’

welling up within us. We have hope for

the world!

The Lord will guide you always;

he will satisfy your needs in a sun-

scorched land

and will strengthen your frame.

You will be like a well-watered garden,

like a spring whose waters never fail.

(Isa 58:11)
