Dee-1 the Brass A Holics

Brasil Guitar Duo, winner of the 2006 Concert Artist Guild International

Competition, is hailed by Classical Guitar magazine for their “maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity.” This hot duo is equally at home on a classical or a world-music series. Their innovative programming features a seamless blend of traditional and Brazilian works, resulting in a global touring schedule and a growing catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings. The Duo is eager advocates for both traditional and new concerti for two guitars and orchestra, the Duo premiered a Concerto for Two Guitars and Orchestra by Brazilian composer Paulo Bellinati in 2012. They

have most recently performed with the Dallas and Houston Symphony Orchestras, the Ohio Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. Brasil Duo strives to expand the repertoire for two guitars with Lora contributing works of his own and Luis arranging both classical and Brazilian music. The Duo performs a broad repertoire of classical guitar duos (Bach, Sor, Scarlatti, and Debussy) combined with the traditional music of their native land (choro, samba, maxixe, and baiao). This Duo is sure to set the stage as we kick off the Lyceum Series tuesday Sept. 23 at richard B. Harrison Auditorium at 7 p.m.

The fast-track acclaimed Stanley Jordan far expands

our deepest knowledge of the jazz greats! In a career that took flight with commercial success and critical acclaim, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a chameleonic musical persona of openness, imagination, versatility and maverick daring. His music is imbued with a warm sensitivity that has captured the imagination of listeners world-wide. A classically trained pianist before playing guitar, Jordan wanted greater freedom in voicing chords on his guitar, so he applied piano principles to do so. To date, Jordan has performed in over 60 countries and on six continents. We are honored to host such a talented musician on our campus. Jordan has received four Grammy nominations. His most recent album “Friends” was nominated for a NAACP Award. In the past he

has performed with such artist as Art Blakey, Richie Cole, recording with Stanley Clarke and Kenny Rogers. Today Jordan performs frequently as a soloist and with his band as well as collaborating with other guitarist such as Kevin Eubanks, Sharon Isbin and Muriel Anderson. While still at Princeton Jordan performed with Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie. Stanley is committed to music as an artistic, spiritual, and even health-promoting endeavor. He has been immersed for more than a decade in music therapy, which has lead him to return back to school where he is working on a master’s degree at Arizona State University. Ever changing ever metamorphosing Stanley Jordan will grace the Harrison stage with his jazz talents we welcome you young and old to join us thursday, Feb. 12 at richard B. Harrison Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

In continued celebration of the university’s

birthday, we will host the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre.

FALL2014 SPRING2015

Dee-1 “a force to be reckoned with!” “Exemplifies the balance between flow, content, swagger, and passion that all of the greatest MCs have shown in one way or another. This New Orleans Hip-Hop artist has performed with Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne. We are excited to bring him to our campus and community as he will be able to reach a wider crossover and multi-generational audience. “ I think the world is finally starting to hear Dee-1, so get in the ground floor, because we will all reap the benefits of his successes in the music industry.

Maybe it will finally be cool again to rap about anything other than sex, drugs and money. Dee-1 will be joined by New Orleans brass combo, The Brass A Holics, a powerful brass group whose big band sound is contagious and out of this world! Get ready to be swept off your feet, literally. Harrison Auditorium will never be the same! Catch this incredible duo at richard B. Harrison Auditorium, thursday, oct. 16, at 7 p.m.

At North Carolina A&T State University we are proud. Our history is rich with achievement and tradition. Our university is a place where the dynamic and visionary challenge the status quo. We share a vision of preeminence; using our minds, our research and our passion, we engage the community and create positive, lasting global change. We are better than yesterday, but never as good as tomorrow. Because our excellence has no boundaries-and because that’s what AGGIES DO!

North Carolina artist Richard D. Wilson, PSA, will show at the University Galleries and will design a commemorative piece of art work to celebrate the university turning 125.

Don’t miss the performance by actress and university professor Tonea Stewart, who is best known for her role as Aunt Etta on the television series, “In the Heat of the Night.”
