S.O.A.R. Scholarship Opportunities for Activities & Recreation

The City of Frisco is committed to serving the diverse needs of its citizens. The Frisco Parks & Recreation Department has established a Scholarship Program for qualified Frisco residents to participate in City of Frisco recreation programs and special events. Scholarships may not be applied to Frisco Athletic Center memberships. To download an application, go to FriscoFun.org. The application deadline for Summer programs is Friday, August 23 at 5 p.m.

The City of Frisco Parks & Recreation Department believes that all individuals should be provided with leisure opportunities that al-low for performance at their highest level. If you or a family mem-ber has special needs and would like to participate in our programs or use a facility, please call us before registering and every effort will be made to meet your needs. Please indicate on the registra-tion form if any special accomodations are needed for successful inclusion in a program, according to the Americans with Disabili-ties Act, and we will contact you to discuss them.

Registration FeesAll program fees are set according to the cost of the instructor, supplies and minimum class enrollment. Some programs may require additional fees or supplies. All fees collected support and finance these programs.

Waiting ListsDue to instructor/participant ratios, each class and program will have a maximum number of spots available. Once the class maximum has been reached, subsequent registrants will be notified that the class is full and will have the option to be placed on a waiting list. Should spots become available, program openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis from registrants that appear on the waiting list. If you are contacted off a waitlist, you must register and pay within 24 hours at the Frisco Athletic Center.

Quality AssuranceTry our classes! If, after attending the first class, you are not happy with the quality of the program, call us right away. Tell us what is wrong so we can make it right. There are no refunds for non-attendance, one-day classes or supply fees.

Withdrawal/Transfer/Refund Policy1. In the event the Parks & Recreation Department cancels a class,

you will receive a full refund or a credit equal to the class fee; or a class transfer can be requested.

2. A credit will be issued to the participant’s FAC account if a completed Refund Request Form is received at least 10 days prior to the start of the class or session. A 20% processing fee will be assessed.

3. If a Withdrawal Request Form is not received at least 10 days prior to the start of the class or session, a refund will not be issued.

4. Medical Refund – A credit will be issued to the participant’s account if an illness or injury causes a participant to miss a single-day class, the entire session or the remainder of a session. To be eligible for a Medical Refund, written documentation from a physician’s office must accompany the Refund Request Form and must be received within 72 hours of the first missed class. A 20% processing fee will be assessed. The refund will be pro-rated if the withdrawal occurs during the session.

5. Transfers from one Frisco Fun Guide season to another are not allowed.

6. Processing of refund checks from cash or check payments takes approximately four to six weeks. Refund checks will be mailed. Refunds to credit card must be made in person.

7. Account credits are valid for one year from the date of issue. 8. Under no circumstances will a cash refund be provided.

CancellationsThe Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any class, program or activity due to weather, failure to meet minimum registration requirements, and situations beyond our control. In the event a class is cancelled, you will be notified and a full refund will be issued.

Sibling PolicyThe structure of the parent/child classes are designed for direct interaction between one parent and one child. We allow only children who are of the appropriate age and registered for the class to attend the program. Other siblings or children will not be permitted in the classroom or allowed to be left unattended in the lobby outside of the class.

Returned Check PolicyA $35 service charge will be assessed for any returned check.

Online RegistrationRegister for activities at your convenience from home! Log on to FriscoFun.org and click on the eFun online registration under Classes and Programs to get started. A non-refundable service fee will be applied to all online transactions.

Walk-in RegistrationWalk-in registration is conducted at the Frisco Athletic Center during regular hours of operation beginning August 5 for residents and Frisco Athletic Center members. Registration opens to everyone August 7. We accept cash, check, money orders and major credit cards. We will not accept credit card charges over the phone.

Mail-in RegistrationComplete the registration form and mail it to the address listed below with the appropriate class fees and signed waiver. Please allow plenty of time for mail delivery, as we are not responsible for mail delays. After your registration is processed, you will receive an email confirmation. If you have not received an email confirmation within 7 days of the class start date, please call 972-292-6600 to confirm registration.

If your first class option is full, you will be enrolled in the second option you listed based on availability. If all options listed are full, you will be contacted. Please send a separate check for each class or program registration. Checks and money orders must be made payable to the City of Frisco with your driver’s license number and phone number included on the check. Please do not send cash through the mail.

PRIVATE LESSONS

The Learn to Swim program is proud to offer private and semi-private swim lessons for children of all skill levels ages 3 and up. Our certified instructors will teach the skills required to make swimming a more rewarding and enjoyable experience. Sessions include four, 30-minute private lessons. Pick a time that is convenient for you.

Learn to Swim - Parent and Child (6mo.-3yrs.)The purpose of the Parent and Child Aquatic program is to help young children become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. While the class is designed to raise the comfort level of the child, it is also intended to educate the parent or caregiver in basic water skills so they are better equipped to aid in their child’s aquatic education and ensure that their child stays safe in all water activities. Sign up to have you or your child’s swimming skills assessed for free by one of our American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors. The instructors will spend one-on-one time with each registered participant to evaluate their current swimming level and discuss developmental swimming goals.

FREE SWIM ASSESSMENTS

Registration is required to participate in the free assessment. The assessment will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Assessments are available Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30pm - 7pm. A swimsuit is required and goggles are strongly recommended.

Learn to Swim - Preschool (3-5 yrs.)The earlier a child becomes comfortable in water, familiar with safety precautions, and introduced to the basics of beginner swimming, the better prepared they will be around pools, lakes, and other aquatic environments. The Preschool class will teach the fundamentals of water safety, buoyancy, breath control, swimming on front and back, changing direction and water entry and exit. Learn to Swim - Wiggle and Wade (3-5 yrs.)Grab your swimsuit and towel - it’s time to have some fun! This interactive class will combine games, crafts, music, reading, swimming, and play all in one. Learn to Swim - Level 5 (6-14 yrs.)To enroll in this level, students must be able to show competency in breathing and execution of all four major strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly) as well as the elementary backstroke. The objective of this level is to continue improvement on the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Students will be swimming distances up to and exceeding 50 yards to refine each stroke over a water depth of 8 feet. This level will introduce flip turns, open turns, sidestroke, and expand on personal water safety tips. Learn to Swim - Level 6 (6-14 yrs.)To enroll in this level, students must be able to show an effective and proficient stroke as well as the appropriate turns in the following: Freestyle 75 yards, Backstroke 50 yards, Breaststroke 50 yards and Butterfly 25 yards. Kids–Shop ‘til you Drop!One featured activity at Merry Main Street is the Kid’s Holiday Store. This special store gives children 12 years and younger the chance to shop for moms, dads, brothers and sisters. Nothing in the store is more than $5. “Santa’s Helpers” will assist children as they shop. All shoppers will go home with wrapped gifts. Children can reserve a time slot at the Merry Main Street event site beginning at 4:30 p.m. Children must secure a bracelet in order to shop.

Shopping rules:* Shoppers will select one of twelve 20-minute shopping sessions.* Sessions will be limited to 45 shoppers.* Children will receive a colored bracelet to indicate when they will be shopping.* Official time clocks will be on display– you must arrive within five minutes of your start time in order to shop.* The store entrance is behind City Hall.
