Equipment IssueNo need to bring your own basketball, soccer ball, or volleyball to the rec! All are available for checkout to our members at the Equipment Issue desk. Also available are XBOX 360 and Wii video game systems, ping pong paddles, and shower towels. Shower towels are checked out at no cost if you have rented a locker through the Recreation Center.

Pro ShopDid you forget your socks, shirt, or shorts for your workout? What about shower supplies or deodorant? Do you need racquets for squash, badminton, or racquetball? We have it here at the Pro Shop, located inside the Equipment Issue area. Stop in and pick up whatever you may need such as combination locks, swim goggles, swim caps, boxing gloves, hand wraps, athletic tape, squash and racquetballs, toothpaste, and even toothbrushes! We accept cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard, and Viking Cash. Stop by and see us today!

Campus Recreation Services is housed in the 110,000 square foot 3-story Recreation Center that adjoins the Physical Education Building, allowing shared use of the Busbey Natatorium. Amenities include two lap pools; basketball, volleyball, racquetball and squash courts; a multipurpose gymnasium; weight rooms and cardiovascular areas; a circuit training area; an indoor track; air hockey; table tennis tables and billiard table; three multipurpose activity studios; locker rooms and lounge areas.

Part–time Faculty/Staff/Business PartnerPart-time employees with at least a 50% appointment with Cleveland State University are eligible for this membership during the semester the appointment is active. Part-time faculty/staff are NOT eligible for payroll deduction. A business partner is an employee of a company affiliated with Cleveland State University through a management agreement to provide campus services. Family WeekendsNeed a place to spend time with your family over the weekend? Members can enjoy free family weekends! That means you can bring your spouse and up to three of your children, ages 6 months through 17 years for FREE all day every Saturday and Sunday. You and your loved ones can shoot hoops, play squash or racquetball, kick the soccer ball around, or cool off with some laps in the pool. Teens 13 – 17 can participate in resistance and cardiovascular training after a Teen Orientation, and don’t forget about the Instructional Pool, open 12 – 4pm during Family Weekends. Student (beginning Fall 2010)Students registered for 1 credit hour or more are typically assessed the Student Service Fee which supports Campus Recreation Services. These students are automatically Recreation Center members and may enter the Recreation Center with their Viking Card.

Off-Semester Student Students that were enrolled in the past semester, but not for the current semester are elligible for the off-semester rate for one semester. Students who are not assessed the Student Service Fee are eligible for the off-semester rate. Continuing education, non-degree and guest students are not eligible for the off-semester rate.

Spouse/Partner/DependentSpouse, partner or dependent of faculty/staff may purchase a membership at a matching rate (student spouse/partner/dependant at off semester rate). Partners are defined as individuals who are of the same gender, who share a regular and permanent residence, have a committed personal relationship, can demonstrate financial interdependence, and who are not legally married or in another domestic partnership. Guest PassesGuest passes are available for one time visits to the Recreation Center. Members may sponsor up to three guests per visit. Guest passes are $9 per visit. All guests must have a photo ID to access the facility.

* All Payroll Deduction or Electronic Fund Transfers memberships (PD/EFT) are on an annual basis and can only be cancelled by the request of the member one year after the original membership start date.

Facility RentalsWe can host a large variety of events including: corporate events, after proms, birthday parties, basketball tournaments, and church group sleepovers, just to name a few. Contact us for this exciting opportunity and allow your group or organization to take full advantage of what our Recreation Center has to offer. Interested parties should fill out a reservation request form two weeks prior to the event, found at our Customer Service desk or www.csurec.com. Facility rentals are great for team building presentations, private fitness classes, or for your organization's sport leagues. Don’t forget about our Green Roof Top. It’s the ideal location for any reception.

GETGAMEIntramural LeaguesFlag FootballJoin us for football without the contact. This league sport is a five-week regular season and one week playoff that will determine the ultimate flag football champions. Men’s and Women’s divisions play 7 v 7 flag football while co-rec plays with 8 v 8. Leagues are offered throughout the week and games are played under the lights of Krenzler Field. SoccerAs close as you can be to a World Cup Champion in Cleveland. Come be a part of the excitement in this 9 v 9 outdoor soccer league which is played at Krenzler Field. We offer Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec leagues throughout the week.

VolleyballGet out of the cold and be a part of this indoor quest for a championship. A five-week season and one week playoff will determine the champions. All divisions compete with six players on the court and rally scoring will be utilized for fast paced action. Leagues are offered throughout the week and all games are played at the Recreation Center. Check out the website for league dates and times.

All meetings are mandatory and each team must send a captain or representative in order to participate in the contests. If the meeting is missed, you must set up a meeting with the Coordinator to go over the policies and procedures for the event before the first game/match.

Intramurals TournamentsTennisThe first intramural of the school year offers men’s and women’s singles, doubles play, and mixed doubles play. This tournament is a great first chance to get involved with CSU Intramurals. All games will be played at the Malaga Tennis Center. Check out the web-site for the tournament dates and times.

RacquetballThe first tournament event in the Recreation Center and your opportunity to play this fast paced, hard hitting sport. Home School Sport and SwimAre you looking for the opportunity to meet other home-school children and parents? Sign up for our Home-School Program held on the first Wednesday of each month. During each program, your child will spend time in the pool followed by kid-friendly activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, floor hockey, and much more! This program is available to all home-school families. Parents, come and network with other parents while your children are enjoying their activities!

The fee is $12 per child, or a total of $32 for families of 3 or more.

Parent and Preschool (ages 3 – 5 years)This class will allow the child to explore the water, gain confidence and learn basic skills in the water with a trusted adult. Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills (age 6 and over)Balance, comfort and independence in the water are the primary focus. Rhythmic breathing is introduced. Safe entries and exits as well as arm and leg movements through the water are performed. Lessons are held in the shallow water.

Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills (age 6 and over)Balance and movement through the water are the primary focus. Changing position from front to back float, beginner stroke with rhythmic breathing, sculling and flutter kick on the back are performed. Lessons are held in shallow water.

Level 3 Stroke Development(ages 6 and over)Development of front crawl and elementary backstroke is primary focus. Deep water skills including diving, underwater swimming, treading water, and survival float are performed. Independence and comfort in deep water are essential for this level as some classes are held in deep water.

Level 4 Stroke Improvement (ages 6 and over)Front and back crawl are refined. Sidestroke and breaststroke kick are developed. The butterfly is introduced and head first entries from the deck, the diving board, and starting blocks are learned. Ability to swim front crawl 25 yards is a prerequisite for this level as lessons are held in lap lanes.

Competitive Training (ages 8 -18)Stroke technique and efficiency is the focus. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke. Skills worked on will include the four competitive strokes, starts and turns, and basic springboard diving.

Adult Beginner(ages 16 and over)For individuals with little experience in the water. The goal is to overcome any fear of water and to teach the basic swimming techniques. Participants will work on water adjustment, balance, flutter kick, rhythmic breathing, and arm movements.

Adult Intermediate(ages 16 and over)For individuals comfortable in and able to move through the water. Development of front crawl with rhythmic breathing, back crawl and elementary backstroke will be the primary focus.

Adult Advanced(ages 16 and over)For adults who can perform the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and sidestroke. The goal is to become proficient in all strokes.

Note: All students are tested on the first day of Swim Lessons. If a student is not able to perform the skill from the previous level on the first day of class, they will be moved to a more appropriate level which may be held at a different time. Last day to register is 2 days before the class begins. If class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment we will try to notify you 24 hours prior to start of class.

Try SCUBAThis one-session class gives anyone age 10 and above the opportunity to try SCUBA diving and actually see what it is like to breathe under water. This one and a half hour program provides all the equipment and expert training necessary to take you safely beneath the surface (and back again!!).

Certain restrictions do apply: - Must be at least 10 years of age. - An adult must accompany children under 16. - Preregistration is required (sorry no drop-ins) - Medical release form must be completed before pool work.M: $55 NM: $60

SCUBABegin your underwater adventure here at Cleveland State University! Buckeye Diving School will be conducting a SCUBA diving program to give you the tools and training to enjoy the underwater world to its fullest potential. The initial program consists of classroom instruction and in water instruction at the CSU Busbey Natatorium. The second part of your SSI (SCUBA Schools International) Open Water Diving certification will involve 4 open water dives. Registration is taken at Customer Service Desk.
