”The Role of the Alumni should never be under-appreciated. Alumni are im-portant in maintaining traditions and preserving continuity. They strengthen the school for the future . . .”- National Association of Secondary School Principals

Join the MT Alumni Association is this exciting opportunity to benefit the children of our future. With recent state budget cuts, many Manheim Township educational programs are at risk of dissolving or being cut. These innovative educational programs give students more resources and opportunities to better understand their subjects and flourish in their dreams for the future. Since 1993, Manheim Township Alumni have worked in conjunction with the Manheim Town-ship Educational Foundation to fund these innovative educational programs for MT students. By making a monetary contribution to the Manheim Township Educational Foundation, you will help make an immediate difference in the lives of MT students. Every dollar you give goes directly to innovative educational programs not covered under the regular school district bud-get, and helps MT students develop the courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.Let’s make this Alumni Annual Fund Drive prove to be a success through the achievements of MT students!

lary skills. The program has 10 Levels which range from the beginning level of ‘A’ to ‘J’ which is the highest Level for the program. Nick began working with WordSmart on June 17, 2011 when he enrolled in TLAB, and in just three short weeks he has been able to advance to level ‘H’ in vocabulary.

Nick Farside is from Lancaster Pennsylvania and attends Manheim Township High School where he will be a senior this year. He learned to read when he was just 2 years old and still loves to read. Bostick finds niche in boothIntelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era By MATT PAWLIKOWSKI, Correspondent

To say its been a whirlwind year for former Manheim Town-ship football standout Pat Bostick might be an understate-ment.

An engagement, his graduation from Pitt in just three years and now while pursuing his master’s degree in educa-tion, the opportunity of a lifetime, to be the color commen-tator for his alma mater’s football games.

When longtime color man Bill Fralic announced he wouldn’t return for an eighth season, Bostick was called upon. While Fralic admitted he will miss working in the booth, he also believes Bostick has a promising future

“I’m excited for Pat Bostick, who has made Pitt very proud on and off the field,” Fralic said. “ I know he will do a great job on the air.”Admittedly, Bostick, who was a three-year letterman for Pitt

(2007-08, 2010) was surprised by the decision.“When I was presented with the opportunity, I was really

surprised about it,” Bostick said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity although I am saddened to see Bill Fralic go, because he is a Pitt

legend. But I’m a Pitt man, a Pitt guy and no matter what I say the platform is important. I’m re-ally excited about it.”

Bostick will team with legendary Pittsburgh broadcaster Bill Hillgrove, who in addition to call-ing Pitt football for 38 years, also does play-by-play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“That is going to be a true honor,” Bostick said. “It makes things a lot more comfortable. His cues are so obvious, he’s so fun and easy to work with, and at the same time you are such an admirer of his work, it’s an unbelievable opportunity.”

Hillgrove, who has teamed over the years with guys like Myron Cope and former Pitt coach Serafino “Foge” Fazio in the booth, worked with Bostick during the Panthers’ spring game. Like Fralic, he too feels that Bostick will do a nice job.

“I will always maintain great respect for Bill Fralic’s knowledge of the game, his sense of fair-ness and his passion for Pitt,” Hillgrove said. “Pat Bostick brings the same passion for the game and for this great university. His knowledge of the current team and its many personalities is something that will assure the Panther Nation of continued fun on Saturdays in the fall.” Bostick will bring a unique perspective to the booth, especially this season since he knows the players and the system new coach Todd Graham has brought to the program.

Jay Hansen, Class of 1963, has all of the Hi-Lites school newspaper from 7th grade (Sept. 1957) through 12th grade (June 1963). He recently had all the 1962-63 newsletters scanned as PDFs. He also has the special edition from about 1959-60 when the “new” high school opened. For more information, contact Jay at [email protected].

“I know these guys, they are my former teammates and they are on the brink of having a big year,” Bostick said. “Obviously with coach Graham bringing in a new system, philosophy and new culture, it’s going to be interesting to watch. I think its going to be an exciting brand of football and it’s going to be a pretty cool thing to broadcast.”

Bostick will also have a weekly guest segment on the Panthers’ flagship station, Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan, to discuss all things Pitt football, and will continue to work in the Pitt athletic depart-ment.

Bostick goes on the air for his first game Sept. 3 when the Panthers play Buffalo at Heinz Field. While looking forward to that, he is very excited about the future, especially having the opportu-nity to call the renewal of the Penn- State-Pitt rivalry.

“To say the least I am ecstatic, especially since Lancaster is a Blue and White town, understand-ably so,” Bostick said. “But I graduated from the best university in the country, and have a lot of pride and think we need to play games like that. The intrastate rivalry is like no other, the passion, the intensity, the atmosphere, and to be a part of it, I’m really excited. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Nancy Hoffner Klein, Class of 1965, met up with a classmate last July for the first time since ‘65. They were both Delegates/Alternate to the Texas State Republican Convention in Dallas. She was delighted to find her living in Texas! They reconnected through Facebook as another of her classmates sent the contact info to everyone. Having moved all over the country, she found it great to find an MTHS classmate who also landed in the great state of Texas.

Cmdr. Michael R. Hagy, Class of 1967, is the co-founder and Managing Principal of the Pinnacle Performance Group.

Michael has hands-on experience in business team develop-ment, executive coaching, leadership and management skills training, strategic planning and project management. Among his current client base are manufacturing, engineering, soft-ware development and service companies in the public and private sectors, financial, engineering and educational institu-tions, U.S. government agencies, the U.S. Navy and numerous not-for-profit organizations.

He is a highly sought public speaker on common sense solu-tions to today’s business challenges. In addition to speaking at national conferences and regional events, Michael routinely helps businesses through forums at Chambers of Commerce and public institutions such as the U.S. Congress and the U.S.

Office of Personnel Management. He has been a featured guest on more than a hundred radio and television programs to discuss his book on managing in today’s workplace, “Under New Management: Organized Common Sense.” He teaches the capstone MBA course “Strate-gic Planning in a Global Environment” for the School of Business Administration. In the fall of 2011, he will teach a second MBA course “Tools of Business Leadership” for the University.

A commissioned officer in the United States Navy, Commander Hagy, US Navy (Retired), was one of a handful of officers dual-qualified as a Naval Aviator and a Surface Warfare Offi-cer. His experience included three tours at sea as ship’s company, and four aviation squadron tours. Mr. Hagy holds a BS in Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Mary-land (1971); graduated “with distinction” from the U.S. Naval War College (1983); and earned his MS in Systems Manage-ment from the University of Southern California (1984).

For the past several years, Michael has focused on develop-ing the leadership traits and management skills of clients’ “next generation” of leaders. His consulting philosophy combines the “hard” aspects of business management, (fact-based decision making, process improvement and metrics), with the “human” needs of the organization, (such as project team development, executive coaching, and Peer Leadership Coaching©), to produce progress that can be measured in a documented return on investment.

Michael can be contacted at [email protected].

Letter from 2011 Distinguished Alumni Winner, Michael J. Mumma, PhD

Many thanks for your time and effort coordinating the solicitation, selection and presen-tation of the distinguished alumni program for MTEF. I am very pleased to be so hon-ored in 2011!I hope the video was enjoyable and inspirational. Most, but not all, graduates are colleg-bound, so I tried to speak to everyone, in it. Graduation marks a transition for some to advanced formal education, but for all it marks a transition to continued learning. Whether that continuation proceeds on the farm, in trade, in business, home, or college/university is almost unimportant. For the individual, what counts is the attitude of em-bracing every lesson life can offer.S.W. France was very good; the Paleolithic cave art is truly spectacular and humbling – it is almost spiritual – think of descending deep into a cavern lit only by flickering hat lamps and executing polychrome images of the animals central to your living: wooly mammoths, rhinoceros, aurochs, horses, etc. Simply awesome.I was very inspired by MTHS today, during my visit. It reminded me that my scientific achievements in later life were enabled by the gifted teachers and wonderful education I received at MTHS. All the best,

Mike

Thank you letter from Michael J. Mumma,
