FALL 2015 VOLUME XLVI No. 3 is year Happy Haven celebrates 50 years – our Golden Anniversary – of service and ministry. Looking back into the history of the property now known as Happy Haven, previously the property of the County Farm, it was a home for the homeless whether they were young or old. In 1965, the Willow Avenue church of Christ established and sponsored Happy Haven Children’s Home with the assistance and financial support of other churches and individuals. At that time, the property included a 35-room structure with 3 apartments, each housing a set of house parents and children. While that old building is no longer standing, Happy Haven now includes three homes (the Abston house, the Richmond Chapel-Nevins house, and the Gainesboro house) each of which include 5-6 bedrooms upstairs and a basement, along with the Farris office building, the Ogden picnic shelter, a barn and a storage building. rough the years, Happy Haven has served literally hundreds of children in need as well as their families. ere are children who have been baptized into Christ during their stay here. e Jefferson Avenue church of Christ now oversees the work here with the continued assistance and financial support of other churches and individuals. In the past 12 months, Happy Haven has served 14 children. uMeet our Mellissa…Mellissa is one of our girls that we are very proud of. She is a junior at Upperman High School. �e Beta Club and Chem Club (Chemistry) have invited Mellissa to become a member. She plans to attend Cosmetology School at Cookeville High School next semester in addition to her classes at Upperman. Mellissa is a blessing to anyone she meets with her smile and personality. She is a good example to all of our girls. Mellissa enjoys going to worship because she loves our God.
