Unless otherwise noted... Workshops are held in the Construction Institute classroom at260 Girard Avenue, Hartford, CT, on the University of Hartford’s Asylum Avenue Campus. You will receive an e-mail registration confirmation and alternate location if necessary.

Registration Information

The Construction Institute offers workshop assessments to participants to complete at

the end of each workshop to assess basic knowledge of the workshop topic.

Most assessments will be online and distributed to participants via email after the completion of each workshop.

Certificates of participation will be distributed to participants after successful

completion of the workshop assessment.

Certificate in Construction Management Construction Management certificate provides thorough up-to-date preparation for effective leadership in the field. Complete six workshops, including four “core” workshops and two electives from an extensive list of informative offerings.

Certificate in Facilities ManagementDesigned for practicing Facility Management professionals to insure they have the necessary knowledge to develop and execute the strategic and operational mission of facilities management. Earn the Certificate in Facilities Management by completing six workshops including five “core” workshops and one elective from an extensive list of informative offerings.

Certificate in Project ManagementFor supervisors, project managers, or those who desire to become project managers; the Certificate in Project Management is comprised of six 4-hour workshops designed to provide essential skills and a solid foundation for long-term development in managing construction and capital projects.

Certificate in BIM (Building Information Modeling) The BIM Certificate Program is designed to provide a basic understanding and knowledge of the technologies, business, organizational, legal and insurance issues, relative to each participant in the project's life cycle. During this 2-hour workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the enviromental impacts of stormwater on construction activity. Learning Objectives • Learn general NPDES permit

requirements including erosion prevention and sediment control BMPs and record keeping requirements (inspections, BMP maintenance, SWPPP amendments).

• Discuss fueling planning and spill prevention and response procedures use of contracts for delegating SWPPP responsibilty.

• Gain an understanding that in some states the requirements may be different when discharging to different waters; and that local stormwater requirements may differ from state requirements.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Construction Institute at the University of Hartford are offering a 2-day course for practicing engineers on the design and rating of steel railroad bridges. Workshop participants should have a background in structural engineering, but not specifically in the field of railroad bridges.Learning Objectives • To cover the basics of the different

types of railroad decks.• To cover the current AREMA code

requirements regarding steel bridges.• Go through a detailed step-by-step

design of a railroad bridge, as well as the rating of an existing bridge.

• Although concentration will be on steel bridges, discussion of concrete and wood structures will also be included.

The course will include photos of bridges and bridge components to illustrate the lecture material. Participants will receive copies of portions of the AREMA specifications sections relating to bridge design and rating, as well as other handout material.David Jacobs, University of Hartford
