HARRIET TUBMAN

• Why did Harriet risk her life to save others?

Harriet Tubman risks her life to save others because she has been in their position. She was once a slave. She escaped captivity and now is able to live freely, and she believe these people deserve the same. Though it would be risky, I think I would want to help others like me as well. Tubman knew what they were experiencing and wanted to help.

A TRAGEDY REVEALED

• What is the purpose or main idea of “A Tragedy Revealed?”

The main idea of “A Tragedy Revealed” is to inform readers of the facts of Anne Frank’s life. At some points, the writers of the play changed or created facts about her life. They completely created an entire scene where the Gestapo come and take the people living in the secret annex away. I think that changing the facts about Anne Frank’s life misinforms readers. “A Tragedy Revealed” helps bring to light the facts about Anne Frank.

WALKING WITH LIVING FEET

• Why does the writer finally cry when she sees the room full of shoes?

She realizes that all the people killed were individuals just like her. She realizes that her shoe is the same as many other shoes in the pile. This makes her realize that she is no different from the victims of the Holocaust. It would be difficult to be so close to the belongings of people that suffered such a brutal fate. Seeing these items makes the writer realize that the victims were no different than anyone else.
