Q I am going to a holiday brunch with my family this weekend and don’t want my makeup to look too overdone. How do I create a more natural look?

A For your lips, apply lipstick using your fingertip. This technique creates a sheer, more natural-looking color stain.

For your face, apply a powder foundation using a powder foundation applicator. Starting on the nose, apply the foundation to the face by moving the foundation applicator in a circular motion. The result will be a barely there natural matte finish.

I want to have the most dramatic, voluminous eyelashes for an upcoming date. What is the best way to achieve this look?

1. Tap the mascara wand over the top of the lashes using an up and down motion.

2. Sweep up from under the lashes and wiggle the wand for a second at the lash base to create more volume. Repeat if desired.

3. Lastly, move wand through lash tips to finish.

Q I want to start layering eye shadow for a more glamorous look, especially with the holidays approaching. What is the best way to apply?

A Always start eye shadow application along the lash line. This way, if there is too much shadow on your brush, you will create more definition at the lashes, which helps to open and brighten the eyes.

Another good idea is to also start with a small amount of product on your brush and build your look as you desire. It’s much easier to add shadow than take it away.

DAY LOOK1 Using a powder brush, sweep over Artistry Exact

Fit™ Powder Foundation and work it into the brush to evenly distribute the product. Starting on the nose, apply the foundation to the face by moving the brush in a circular motion.

2 Apply the Artistry® Rose Diamond 3D Face Powder to the top of the cheekbones and above the brow arch.

3 Smudge the Artistry® Black Eyeliner Pencil along the upper lashes.

4 Using the Artistry® Little Black Dress Eye Shadow Palette, apply the Candlelight eye shadow to the eyelid from the lash line, blending up and into the crease. Buff out shadow in the crease to create subtle definition.

5 Smudge the Candlelight eye shadow along the lower lash line.

6 Apply the Pearl eye shadow under the brow arch.

7 For close-set eyes: Apply the Sequin eye shadow to the inner corner of the eyes.

For wide-set eyes: Apply the Stiletto eye shadow to the inner corner of the eyes.

RICK’S TIP To avoid getting eye shadow dust under your eyes, tap a small amount of eye cream under the eyes but do not rub it in. Place a tissue over the area and press it into the skin. The eye shadow dust will be absorbed by the tissue, leaving a clean under-eye area.
