PROJECT BRIEF

A new build school built using traditional Masonry and steel construction to be finished with a TEK panel mono pitch roof to four main areas of the school.

This job presented a particular challenge as the architect had initially designed the product using a SIP’s panel which is not available in the UK, so K-Panels and the client had to work with the client to ensure the pre-designed Kalzip Zinc roof could still be fitted and the specified U-Values achieved.

PROJECT EVALUATION

From the offset the K-Panels were aware some earlier problems meant the client was facing an extremely tight lead time with over running costs, it was extremely important our phase of the build did not add to the escalating programme and expense.

Our ability to react quickly providing tightly timed sequenced deliveries and an efficient installation programme afforded our client some valuable acceleration in build programme to recoup lost time.

KEY STATISTICS

• TEK roof incorporated with Masonry and Steel structure

• Low U-Value requirements

• Live school site with particular attention to H&S

• Overcoming incorrect specification issues

• Completed ahead of schedule

PROJECT SOLUTION

Due to the impact the design and specification changes had on the build programme K-Panels were asked to complete the installation of approximately 600 square meters of roofing panel within a 3 week time frame, with design and delivery period being only 3 weeks from order placement.

The time and cost constraints on this site left no room for any miscalculation with regards to fitting the TEK panels to the steel structure, and the precise design evaluation carried out by K-Panels enabled the site installation to be reduced to just 2 weeks with a team of 4 installers fixing over 300 square meters of panel in the first week alone.

Due to the tight site restrictions of a live school site K-Panels were given strict timed delivery slots of only 30 minute windows. K-Panels planned a sequenced delivery and lifting schedule meaning each of the 4 key areas were delivered in one day with the panels immediately offloaded to the specific area they were required.
