we will explore questions that you may have wondered about Lent, like: Why don't we use the word Alleluia in worship during Lent? Why is Lent 40 days? What are we supposed to do during Lent? We will also prepare the ashes to be used for Ash Wednesday. We will make ashes by burning the palms left over from last year’s Palm Sunday worship. Questions? Contact Pastor Devon [email protected].

Ash Wednesday

7-8:30am: Prayer and Ashes (location TBD) 6:00pm: Informal Family Pizza (Rm 306)

Confirmation Confirmation is a time in the life of the church where we

prepare our young people to become professing

members of Fairlington United Methodist Church. It is a

time of learning, reflection and prayer. Each young

person moving through the process of Confirmation is

matched with a Mentor who will guide the young person

through the program, share their faith, and role model

Christ-like living. The following young people will be

part of our Confirmation group this year. You are invited

to pray for these persons, asking God to be present

with them.

Confirmands Mentors Danielle Amoateng Sarah Laryea Hannah Canela Sue Gunter Savannah Daub Greta Asgeirsson & Erik Lundquist Morgan Kamber Meredith Caskey Maegan McBride Karen Winzenburg Champe Mitchell David Devilbiss Zachary Plank Andrew Hunter Calvin Yee Glen Winzenburg

FUMC’s General Conference study group is reviewing different plans that the General Conference (GC), our denomination's worldwide legislative body, will consider in May 2020 regarding the future of the United Methodist Church, including potential separation into more than one faith expression. delegate and FUMC Staff Parish member), Pastor Janine Howard; Pastor Devon Earle; Janese Bechtol, Lay Leader; Anne Wilson, Council Chair; Karen Winzenburg, Trustee; Jennifer Ayers, Finance; Andrew Hunter, Ann Murdoch, Meghan Castner, and Jessai Canaday. You can also find information on vaumc.org/SeparationAgreement.

These sessions are an opportunity to receive your feedback about what is happening in the UMC through open and honest dialogue, to ask questions, to communicate information, and to help inform future decisions FUMC may need to make depending on what happens at the General Conference in May. Each session will include 12 people (15 max) and last 90 minutes. Sessions will be hosted in the Parlor.
