After they realised people actually listened to them, they started playing as frequently as possible, in

anywhere they would be aloud to play. They confined their shows to many basements and other such venues

but this didn’t hinder their performances and they began accumulating a wide fan base. This inspired

them to start recording their music so that their fans could take it home and listen to it freely.

 They then made an EP called To/From, which increased their fan base and they continued to play as often as

possible. This EP was released in 2005.

Due to the positive effect of their first album they began playing in more high profile venues and festivals such as The Siren Music Festival, which was an annual summertime outdoors concert held in Brooklyn's Coney Island from 2001-2010, and Lollapalooza.

2006 saw the first album from Matt and Kim called ‘Matt & Kim’ The album primarily sold at live shows. In 2009 they signed with FADER Label and their second album, Grand was recorded in Matt's childhood bedroom at his parents' home in Vermont. A video for one of the album's highlights, "Lessons Learned", in which the duo strips nude in Times Square, was shot during a very cold winter day in February 2009. The clip became a viral success, being bounced off of YouTube temporarily, which only heightened awareness. By September 13, 2009 though, "Lessons Learned" had won the Breakthrough award at the2009 Video music Awards. In 2009, their song "Daylight" was featured in a Bacardi commercial, a Mars Bar commercial, and the second episode of Community.
