    Introduction

Welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Paderborn. With this little brochure we want to give you important academic information so you can enjoy a nice and easy start as an exchange student in our faculty.

    1. Important Dates

    Lecture Period

    October 13, 2014 to February 15, 2015

    Semester Start

    October 01, 2014

    Semester End

    March 30, 2015

    PAUL Registration

    July 28 to August 22, 2014 and/or October 06 to October 24, 2014

    Exam / Exam Period

There is no special exam period. Please ask the professors of your courses what kind of exam you have to take (that could be an oral/written exam, in class presentation, end of term paper, essay, survey etc.) and when it is due.

Our Winter Semester ends in mid-February. Many of you leave then. Please speak with the appropriate professor so that your exams are completed at the end of the lecture period.

    2. ECTS Our university uses the ECTS credit system. One credit is equivalent to a workload of approximately 30 hours. Depending on the course you attend in our faculty you can obtain between 3 and 6 ECTS it depends on the workload that is required. If you are also taking German courses, please take care not to overload your schedule with other courses. You should know whether your home university accepts the German lessons as a part of your curriculum. If so, the ECTS you get there are credited to the 30 ECTS that most exchange students have to acquire during their time abroad. The Transcript of Records, which will be sent to your home university after completing your time abroad, will contain courses you have taken, the (German) grades, and the number of ECTS points you have earned during your stay.

    Introduction

    3. Transcript of Records

In order to earn credits for your achievements at the University of Paderborn you need to send a list of all your courses to Kerstin Ollech (ollech@zv.uni-paderborn.de) in the International Office; she'll contact you about this via e-mail before the end of the semester. After your exams, you have to obtain confirmations for your grades and credits from your lecturers and submit those at the International Office as well. Since not all exam grades are available by the time of your departure, you must let Ms. Ollech know which signatures and classes are missing. Ask the professor to inform Ms. Ollech per email about your grades and ECTS as soon as they are available. Ms. Ollech will then issue your Transcript of Records and send it to your home address.!
