Dr.GerhartreceivedaM.M.inPercussionPerformanceandInstrumentalConductingandaB.M.inMusicEducationfromCaliforniaStateUniversity,LongBeach.HehasbeenfeaturedonCDswiththeRobinCoxEnsembleandStevenHartkeonSonic Scenery for theNaturalHistoryMuseum of LosAngeles County. Alongwithhiswife,Junko,DavidGarrettperformscelloandpianorecitalsastheBelroseDuo,includingseveraltoursinboththeU.S.andJapan.AwayfromthecelloGarrettenjoysplayingthevioladagamba,composing,andarranging,andinhissparetimeheenjoysgamesandsports,especially,tennis,chess,andbridge.
DAVID HOLBEN, TUBA David Holben began playing tuba in 1985 inPittsburgh, PA, where he studied with DavidMcCollum andMatthew Shinerfor several years. He received his doctorate in tuba from the University ofSouthernCaliforniaunderthetutelageof JimSelfandNormPearson. Healsoholdsdegrees fromEastmanSchoolofMusic (BM), andUniversityofArizona(MM),andhismajorteachersincludeDavidMcCollum,CherryBeauregard,SamPilafian, and others. David has performed on stagewith such artists as BebelGilberto,VictorVanacore, JeffTyzik andAndrea Bocelli, toured and recordedwiththeEastmanWindEnsembleandtheUniversityofArizona’sWindEnsembleandheldteachingpositionsatMillikinUniversity,RiversideCityCollege,BiolaUniversity and theUniversity ofNevada, Las Vegas. Currently he an adjunctprofessoratPepperdineUniversityandafreelancemusicianintheLosAngelesarea,recordinginfilmstudiosandsubstitutingwithsomeofthefinestensemblesinLosAngelesincludingtheHollywoodBowlOrchestra,L.A.OperaandBalletorchestra,SantaBarbaraSymphony,SanDiegoSymphony,PasadenaSymphonyandNewWest Symphony. Hehas performedwith theGenesisBrassQuintet(Winnersof theNewYorkBrassConference),SouthwestBrass, “Take5”BrassQuintet,TucsonBrassWorks,MillikinFacultyQuintet,SterlingandNyobiBrassQuintets,andisafoundingmemberofLongBeachBrassWorks,finalistsofthe2010PalosVerdesChamberMusicSeries.HeisamemberoftheInternationalTuba Euphonium Association (ITEA), and has been featured as a soloist andclinicianatITEA-sponsoredregionaltuba-euphoniumconferences,performingat some international conferences aswell. Davidhas been featured as a guestartistattheAmericanChurchinParis,France.Herecentlypublished39 Etudes for Tuba(nowalsoavailableinEuphonium)byCherryBeauregard;aprojectinwhichcompiled,editedandannotatedanintensivetechniquebuilderforthetuba.
MATT POGUE, TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS MattPoguehasbeenanemployeeofCSULBsince1993.HeholdsaB.A.InLiberalStudieswithamusicconcentrationfrom CSULB in 1998, and two additional B.A. degrees in Classics/Greek andClassics/Latin from CSULB in 2006, where he graduated Magna Cum LaudeandwasnamedtheDistinguishedUndergraduateStudentforthedepartmentofComparativeWorldLiteratureandClassics.InadditiontosingingwithCSULB’sChamberSingersandOperaPacific,Matthasspentthelast15yearscollaboratingas amulti-instrumentalist with localmusicians and artists in the Long Beachunderground, and canbeheardon recordingsby JoyShannonand theBeautyMarks, and in works on theMPRNTBL label. In 2008 he participated in aninstallationatSoundwalk;currentlyheisworkingonafolk/shoegaze/progrock/looperprojectwithlongtimecollaboratorsDavidNadalandBrianHalter(ofLeadandThoughtsandSpears) entitledLightFromADeadStar. Matt is agraphicartistfortheColeConservatory,providingprintadvertisingandprogramsforthemanymusic ensembles. He alsoprovideswebdevelopment andmaintenance,technologysupport,andoccasionalguitarinCSULB’sTrenchEnsemble.

DaveiscurrentlythedirectoroftheCSULBUniversityPercussionEnsembleandtheCSULBSteelDrumBand.HeisalsoamemberoftheappliedmusicfacultyatCSULB.HiscompositionsandarrangementsforpercussionensembleandsteeldrumorchestraarepublishedbyBachovichMusicPublications. Dr.Gerhart isafoundingmemberoftheIslandHoppin’SteelDrumBandandtheIronWorksPercussionDuoandproudlyendorsesYamahaPercussionInstruments,InnovativePercussion,andEvansDrumheads.
CAROLYN BREMER, TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS Carolyn Bremer has beendubbedacomposer“drivenbyhobgoblinsofpostmodernistcant.”Bremercametocompositionon theheelsof intensive trainingas anorchestralbassist. Hercataloguecontainsworksbasedonfeministsymbolism(Athene),baseball(Early Light),andpopularculture(It Makes Me Nervewracking).Recently,Bremerhasincorporated her photography andmusic intomultimediaworks. Bremer hashad recent performances of herworks atCarnegieHall; inGermany,Norway,and Sweden; and for the gala 150th anniversary concert atWest Point. HercommissionsincludetheSymphony for WindBand,premieredbyRayCrameratIndianaUniversity;Returns of the Day,premieredbyThomasDvorakatUniversityof Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Pieces of Eight premiered by the California StateHonor band, andSpark, premieredbyAdamBrennan atMansfieldUniversity.CDsreleasedsinceSpring2002includetheEl Paso Wind SymphonyonSummitRecords,theHeritage of American Band of the US Air Force,theTowson University Symphonic Band,andtheMonarch Brass Ensemble.
HerworkEarly Light is amainstay in thewind ensemble repertoire, receivinghundreds of performances each year. The original version for orchestra hasbeen performed by professional orchestras including the Houston Symphony,CaliforniaPhilharmonic,ChattanoogaSymphony,OklahomaCityPhilharmonic,andWacoSymphony.BremerstudiedattheEastmanSchoolofMusic,CalArts,andreceivedthePh.D.incompositionfromUCSB.ShewasChairofCompositionat the University of Oklahoma from 1991-2000 where she held the O’BrienPresidentialProfessorship.Currently,sheisaProfessorofComposition/TheoryandChairoftheBobColeConservatoryofMusicatCaliforniaStateUniversityLongBeach.
JESSICA CAMERON, PERCUSSION JessicaCameroniscurrentlyafreelancemusicianandeducatorinLosAngeles.ShehasperformedwiththeLosAngelesPhilharmonic, Redlands Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony, and the KansasCitySymphony,amongothers.SheiscurrentlyapercussionistforthenewmusicgroupWildUp.Throughouthercareer,shehashadtheprivilegetoperformwithmanyincrediblemusiciansincludingJohnWilliams,GustavoDudamel,MarthaArgerich,KennyWarner,BurtBacharach,KeikoAbe,GiovaniHidalgoandGregBissonette.Inadditiontoperforming,Jessicaisanactiveeducatorandisontheteachingartist faculty for theLosAngelesPhilharmonicandHarmonyProject.ShereceivedhereducationfromtheUniversityofNorthTexas,CalStateLongBeach,andtheUniversityofSouthernCalifornia.
AXEL CLARKE, PERCUSSION AxelClarkehasbeenactiveasaperformerandinstructorintheLosAngelesareafor13years.HeholdsB.A.andM.A.degreesin

PercussionPerformancefromCalStateLongBeach.Asateacher,hehasbeenamemberoftheStudioFacultyatLongBeachStatefor6yearsandalsodirectsthepercussionprogramattheprestigiousOrangeCountyHighSchooloftheArts.Axel’sperformanceandrecordingcredits includeworkwithSaraHaze,ChelsaLena,Skanic,KimRichmondJazzOrchestra,TheRobinCoxEnsemble,DMP,NextExit,Mehdi,andseveralSteeldrumensembles.Hecanalsobeheardinnumerousmulti-mediaexhibits inmuseumsacross thecountryand indocumentaries forAnimalPlanetandDiscovery.AsacomposerheispublishedbyBachovichMusicPublications.
JUNKO UENO GARRETT, PIANO Japan-bornJunkoUenoGarretthascaptivatedaudiences around the world with her colorful tone, poetry, expressiveness,dynamictechnique,andwiderangeofrepertoire.Shebeganplayingpianoattheageofthree,trainedattheprestigiousTohoGakuenSchoolofMusicinTokyo,andreceivedaDoctorofMusicalArtsDegreefromRiceUniversity’sShepherdSchoolofMusic in theUnitedStates. Junko’s recent engagements in theU.S. includerecitals in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Kansas City,Denver,SaltLakeCity,Tucson,Houston,Fairbanks,andmanyothercitiesundertheauspicesoftheJapanFoundation,JapaneseEmbassy,andJapaneseConsulatesGeneral. She performed on several occasions for the 150-year celebration oftheUS-Japan treaty. In Los Angeles she keeps a busy performance schedule,performingon theLosAngelesPhilharmonic’schambermusicseries,chambermusiccollaborationswithleadingLosAngelesmusicians,facultyperformances,and guest artist appearances. In 2010 She performed bicentennial celebrationconcertsonChopinandSchumann,andin2011sheisperformingonthethemeof“CelebratingLiszt:HungarianConnection.”JunkoholdsafacultypositionattheOccidentalCollege.
JunkodebutedintheU.S.in1991,SouthAmericanin1992,andFrancein1994,andherreturntriptoFrancein1996includedaliveperformanceonRadioFrance.HerreturndebuttoherJapanesehomelandwasin1995asamemberoftheBelroseDuo,andshehassinceperformedfrequentlyinJapan.Shesolo-touredinJapaninfallof2006,andcaptivatedawiderangeofaudiences.Otherrecentactivitiesincludeconcert tours to India in2004and2005 introducingWesternMusic toIndianaudiences.Sheoftengivesmasterclasseswheresheperforms.JunkohasreleasedthreesoloCDs,Canción para piano, 100 Years of Japanese Piano Music,andAmerican Music for Piano.ShehasalsopartneredintwopianotrioCDsofJapanesefolksongscommissionedbytheJapanesephilanthropist,Mr.SeigoArai.HerteachershaveincludedJohnPerry,RobertRoux,andHiroshiMiura.JunkoUenoGarrettisaKawaiartist.SheresidesinLosAngeles.
DAVID GARRETT, CELLO DavidGarrettjoinedtheappliedteachingfacultyinthedepartmentofMusicinFall2001.HebecamepartofthecellosectionoftheLosAngelesPhilharmonicinFebruaryof2000.PreviouslyhewasamemberoftheHoustonSymphony,AssistantPrincipaloftheSanAntonioSymphony,andamemberoftheNewOrleansPhilharmonic.Garrettalsoappearsfrequentlyasrecitalist,chambermusician,andsoloist,receivingpopularandcriticalacclaim.WritinginStradmagazine,HenryRothobserved“heisapolishedandexperiencedmusician...excellentinalldepartments.”
Garrettmaintains awide range ofmusical interests: he has recordedmoderncelloworksfortheAlbanyandOpusOnelabels,hisdoctoraldissertationincludespublication of previously unknown baroque cello works, and he pursues thestandardliteratureinregularsoloandchambermusicperformances.Garrettalso
