You may treat the following statements about the world as true:

﴿ It Is the late twenty-second century. Technology has leapt ahead of many expectations. New energy sources made dependence on fossil fuels a thing of the past. Improvements in materials science made possible the creation of large, humanoid robotic exoskeletons for construction, exploration, and even sport. There are inhabited colonies on Luna, Mars, even a few mining and research stations as far out as the asteroid field.

﴿ the alIens brought mankInd a new war. While conflict was not completely eradicated from Earth, the first steps into extra-solar space were met with violence and destruction. Some inhuman things lay in wait beyond the Rim and they have offered neither quarter nor council. All attempts to leave the Sol system have been met with destruction. Now they’re pushing into the system itself, and even staging raids on Earth!

﴿ you are a member of the earth defense dIrectorate. The EDD recruits the best and brightest of Earth from both the cream of research scientists to the most brutal of interrogation specialists and the best human mecha pilots in the system. Some of those recruited evidence traces of what once was referred to as “psychic power” but which we now know to be quantum awareness. You are the best trained and best prepared of humanity and while you do not evidence superhuman physical ability, all EDD members are near the peak of human potential.

﴿ your condItIon was caused by contact wIth alIen combat forces or alIen technology. Your training prepared you your presence in the field of conflict, but something happened to you. Your current situation may be the result of alien technology, quantum backlash, or physical trauma.

﴿ somethIng you know Is vItal to the defense of earth. You were engaged in direct contact with aliens or alien technology for a reason. That reason was the pursuit of knowledge, understanding, or tactics that will be helpful to those standing in defense of the planet. It is imperative that this knowledge be shared with the Earth Defense Directorate.

We hope that this will aid you in recovering your identity. If you have difficul-ties with this, you may also refer the How Do You Deal with Inconsistent Memories Among the Group? sidebar in Chapter Three (p. 36). Please know that we are monitoring your progress throughout the treatment; though, for reasons already explained, we cannot intervene during it. Should you accidentally recall false memories, we will collect you once the process is complete and attempt your treatment again with a new therapy group. Our goal is to help you remember how to be the functional member of the Earth Defense Directorate you once were.
