A subscription makes it easier to manage the software (licensing, access, updates, and versions). You can staff up or down easily, centralize license control, and understand who needs updates. With a subscription, you only pay for what you need. Plus, your budget is more predictable, with options to lock in prices for multiple years. You also have access to the latest version with continuous upgrades, and no downtime.

With an AutoCAD subscription you can connect and collaborate from any device or platform. The subscription gives you one click design share so you can send a file to someone who isn’t using the same software and they can view it. Plus, you get the flexibility to work across product release years. And with A360 and the AutoCAD 360 mobile app, you can view on the go, work in the field with more than 50+ file formats on any platform through a cloud account or with no internet connection.

When you are out in the field, you can easily access your DWG files regardless of whether you are connected to the internet, through A360 and the AutoCAD 360 Pro mobile app. There is no risk of losing access to your designs when you’re not connected to the internet.

“I wish [DraftSight had] a better pipeline to Autodesk for keeping up with Autodesk versions. They are at least two versions behind.”

Manager at a Canadian Engineering Services firm, who currently uses DraftSight

“The Autodesk products are much easier to learn and use. So many times in the other software you would have to tweak something several times to get it to work.”

• Compatible does not equal comparable. BricsCAD, ZWCAD, and DraftSight don’t have the graphics and 3D display capabilities that reduce eye fatigue, speed 3D visualization and provide stability of operation. AutoCAD does.

• DraftSight and ZWCAD have no sheet sets that enable template configuration, integrated detail bubble callouts, and seamless integration with the plot publishing routines. AutoCAD does.

• DraftSight doesn’t have AutoLISP, ZWCAD doesn’t support Visual LISP extensions, and BricsCAD doesn’t support all compiling and deployment options for AutoLISP, and none of them have a security structure like AutoCAD’s Trusted Locations settings to prevent unauthorized or viral programs from making their way into your operating environment. AutoCAD does.

• DraftSight, ZWCAD, and BricsCAD don’t have easy drag-and-drop creation of palettes and programmability using AutoLISP or macro code to enforce layering and scaling standards when inserting blocks or other geometry. AutoCAD does.

Take a deeper dive when comparing products to see how AutoCAD beats the competition by helping you do more, in less time.

You have the support of a large global user community and training network. And it’s all included in the subscription price.. From sharing tools for building network deployment kits with custom content to install across offices, coordinating service pack delivery so everyone is using the same software, and working with hardware vendors to ensure that certified drivers are available to reduce hardware glitches, to day-to-day questions. You are not left to figure it all out on your own after you buy the software.

“[We] highly rely on writing custom interfaces to streamline our processes. The non-Autodesk solutions either limit the APIs available, or don’t allow it all. Plus, at some point, almost all files will need to interface with the Autodesk DWG format, and other solutions don’t always play nicely with DWG. As the de facto world standard of desktop CAD file format, you can’t afford to not correctly read and write DWG files.”

“[AutoCAD has] Better help and user community support. It’s so hard to find answers [with other software]. The Autodesk community and support system is spectacular.”

You can easily customize the user interface to fit the way you work. Plus, with over 600 apps in the Autodesk App Store, you may find your preferred way of completing a task without having to create a shortcut. It’s just a matter of downloading and installing.

Each user can automate redundant tasks to save time. There’s no need for programming experience, either. When programming is used to implement standards, a CAD administrator can help all the users save time, not just one user. This translates into huge cost savings for the organization. AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT have an intelligent command line that actually interprets user intent and adapts over time to help minimize repetitive steps.

“The beauty of AutoCAD is the command shortcuts that save time and are not all that difficult to learn. Additionally blocks and attributed blocks are very helpful in many different situations. Furthermore, I would say the ability to create a polyline and modify it on the fly, such as if one needed to trace a parking layout. AutoCAD allows you to change between straight lines and arcs on the fly.”

Whether importing or exporting from third-party programs, it’s all compatible, with no extra steps. This results in a faster and less expensive workflow. AutoCAD enables you to interact with other programs without the typical data translation steps using a third-party software. You can send models directly to 3D printers, import from popular MCAD programs, import/export from other Autodesk applications, and work in the field with more than 50+ file formats on any platform through a cloud account.
