Dear Students, Parents and the Lancelin Community, Apologies that the newsletter is a little late this week, with the swimming carnival Friday we were not able to ensure all students would receive it on time, so its going out today through email, through our website and via paper format. Please inform the school if you would like to alter the delivery of the newsletter. Thank you. STAFF CHANGES Last week we welcomed back Ms Vikki White from her position at River Valley Primary School into the K/PP. The students have easily transitioned which has been made much easier over the past 5 weeks through the dedication of Miss Darcy Thompson. Darcy has now taken back her role of Early Intervention and Numeracy teacher in the Year1/2 and 3/4 rooms. FACTION SWIMMING CARNIVAL On Friday we all enjoyed such a fun day at the LPS Faction Swimming Carnival. Although we were down on numbers which was disappointing the students and families that made their way to Gingin were treated to a fantastic day. The competitive spirit was very evident as all students put in 100% effort, however what was most pleasing was the show of sportsmanship that was on display. Congratulations to all Champions and Runner up Champions, and to Endeavour who were the winners of the shield. Check out our Facebook page for all the photos of the day. We had our oldest students jumping in the pool to help younger students finish their race, as well as classmates doing the same. It certainly made us so proud as a staff to see this on display and for me, it was one of the highlights of the day. Thank you to all of our parents who supported us on the day, whether it be helping on the sidelines or supporting our children. It makes us feel very grateful to see everyone having a good time celebrating our students. A huge thank you to Ms Collins who worked tirelessly before the carnival and ensured the day went without a hitch. Looking forward to heading off to the Interschool Carnival in Gingin this Friday. Good luck to all competitors! STUDENT BEHAVIOUR It is disappointing that this is an element of our school that has needed to be discussed over the past few weeks as it has been noted that there has been an increase in antisocial behaviour at the school. It saddens us as a staff that we are having to deal with students who are making poor choices, without thinking of the consequences, which has included vandalism and bullying. I have included a copy of our Good Standing Policy with the newsletter to ensure that all stakeholders in the school understand and are aware of the policy and the positive and negative consequences that result of poor behaviours. While it is not a common occurrence at LPS which is very pleasing, as a staff we have very high expectations of our students behaviour. Our focus of the policy is ensuring that the students take ownership of their behaviour and accept and understand the consequences. If we could ask you to speak to your children in regards to the policy and ensure they understand all elements as we will be following this policy to the letter, as we have been, to create a positive, rewarding learning environment for our children. Thank you for your support in this matter. Should you wish to speak to me regarding our Good Standing Policy, please do not hesitate to make an appointment at the office. CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) In regards to the students at Lancelin Primary School we have been informed that at this stage the risk is low. Staff have been vigilant in hand hygiene and disease control. If there are any changes this will be communicated immediately to all parents. Thank You. SCHOOL STARTING TIMES Please be reminded that there is NO duty of care for the students before 8.30am. The office is not always attended before this time so therefore we cannot guarantee duty of care. We understand that there are times in which there are circumstances in which this can not be avoided, but if you are able to give advance notice that would be much appreciated, so arrangements can be made. Classrooms are open each morning from 8.30am and we are happy to welcome students at school from then as it gives them plenty of time to get themselves organised ready for the school day. Thanking you in advance. CRUNCH AND SIP Please be advised that as a Crunch and Sip School we dedicate time between recess and lunch for students to have fruit/veg and water. This not only gives the students sustenance but allows for a brain break, which has proven to improve concentration. I f you are able to ensure that your child can participate by providing a piece of fruit and /or veg and water (only) in their drink bott le that would be great, thank you! Each class participates in Crunch and Sip and if you have any questions please don ’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher who would be happy to discuss this further. SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES James McIntrye is our Educational Psychologist and is available for our students every second Monday (even weeks) each term. Through the newsletter there are interesting articles from James in regards to a variety of topics from parenting to education and the importance of their connection. If you would like to have a discussion regarding your child and their education please do not hesitate to see us in the office to organise an appointment. Thank you! SCHOOL PERFORMANCE REVIEW VISITS In week three this term I accompanied Mr Rod Lowther ( who was our Public School Reviewer last year) to Koorda, Bencubbin and Nungarin Primary schools in order to be a peer reviewer in the performance process. It was such a worthwhile experience being able to see the process from the other side, and it allowed me to reflect on our process and how fortunate we are at Lancelin to have the motivated educators we have here. The other positive I took from the week was that the schools in the wheatbelt district also have fantastic educators who are dedicated to their students. It makes me feel very proud to be a part of a system that is so invested in the education of our children. Again, we are very lucky to be able to have the support we have from our community. If you have ever thought about helping out at school, please don’t hesitate, as we would like to encourage all members of the community be a part of our great School to help our students “Fly High …. See Far!” Warm Regards Jemma Temby Principal Lancelin Primary School
