Faction Sports Carnival
Despite the weather forecast of showers, we were very fortunate to have a cool and overcast but fine day for our annual Faction Sports Carnival.
Our senior students took the opportunity to show their maturity and leadership skills organising and guiding the younger students.
Special thanks to the Duncraig Senior High School students, without whose help on the day we could not run this wonderful event.
A very well supported days events with lots of colour and excitement saw Tuart take out the honours for the day.
Congratulations TUART!

Dear Parents and Caregivers
Community Forum
As you’re aware I’m holding a community forum in the staffroom on
Wednesday 19 September 2018 from 9.00 am to 10.00 am. The topics
were to be 2018 NAPLAN, survey results and behaviour management.
However, the school won’t have received our aggregated NAPLAN data
sets by this time. While ACARA (the federal education authority) did
release the raw NAPLAN results to SCSA (the state education authority) on Tuesday 28 August 2018, the SCSA
requires at least 3 weeks to aggregate and organise the raw data into meaningful, understandable sets and then
release these sets to schools to be actioned.
Therefore, NAPLAN won’t be covered in this forum. Instead, I will go through the school’s survey results, behaviour
management, finances and 2019 planning. I’ll also open up for a Q&A session where I’m happy to answer any
questions on notice. In this, please forward any question you have and would like answered by either emailing me
the question at [email protected] or dropping the question off in writing at the front office to either
Barb Jardine or Nicole Adams.
Given that we won’t have full access to our NAPLAN 2018 aggregated data sets until what will effectively be Term 4,
the fact is that this data will be of limited validity and use to our school. As a reporting instrument and as a planning
tool, the length of time between our students sitting the test and receiving the test results and the data sets makes
the worth of the whole exercise questionable. Let’s hope the introduction of the online testing regime in the 2019
academic year resolve this timing issue.
Athletics
Thanks you to all of our students, staff and parents/caregivers for making last Friday’s athletics carnival such a
successful one. It’s important to know that this carnival focuses on participation, fun, cooperation and fitness. It’s not
about winning per say, but being a good team member. However, from here the focus changes and the emphasis of
the interschool athletics carnival is to win. In this we pick our best to represent the school in what is a competitive,
hard edged carnival. Not all students will be involved, and many will miss out. They may well be disappointed, and
this is a part of life – learning to deal with not always making the cut in every area. Practise is well under way and will
continue until the carnival day on Friday September 14 2018.
Edu-Dance
Our final concert is on Tuesday 11 September 2018 at 2pm in the undercover area. If it’s anything like last year, it’ll
be a spectacle you won’t want to miss and I encourage you to get in early to attain a good seat. We’ll do our best to
accommodate everyone but on occasions like this the school has outgrown our undercover area.
School numbers
There has been a lot of talk in the media this week about what is a good total student number for a primary school.
I’ve been the principal of a school with 42 students right through to a school with over 900 students. In my opinion,
the best number for a school is around the 400 mark. School’s with 400 students have 2 classes for each year level
and enough resources via the funding model for programs like our gifted challenge program, protective behaviours
program and STEM program as well as Indonesian, Music and Physical Education. Of course every school is
different, but South Padbury will continue to maintain around 400 students into the foreseeable future.

The P&C held it's annual Father's Day Stall last week. A massive thanks to all who helped wrap gifts and to those helpers who were brave enough to be 'shop assistants' on the day. We really appreciate your time and effort.
The Faction Carnival Subway lunch fundraiser was a success, with over 180 orders placed. Thanks to the parents who helped distribute the lunches and to Tia Tutti for organising.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Wednesday 12 September at 7pm in the Staff room. Everyone welcome.

School Grounds After Hours Security
Adding to our already sizeable amount of lost property were many items left behind after the Faction
Carnival last Friday. Please check the undercover area, if you or your child have lost any items.
Any remaining items will be cleared out of the undercover area at the end of this week before the Edu-Dance concert next Tuesday.
If you do not intend for your child to continue at South Padbury for 2019 could you please let the front
office know. You can contact us via the Flexibuzz App, phone, in person or by email
[email protected] If you have a potential work transfer or possible house move, please
let us know so we are aware of this possibility.
