The aims of this research study are to determinewhether an emotional facial expression is morerapidly located in an array of neutral faces, thanthe location of a neutral face amongst emotionalfaces. It has been suggested that emotional facialexpressions do not have to be attended to for themto be perceived; it is an involuntary process(Hansen & Hansen,1994., Stenberg, Wilking &

Dahl, 1998). In fact Pratto & John (1991) arguethat negative expressions attract attention more sothan positive or neutral expressions due to anadaptive, automatic recognition of danger that is

part of the human biology. One study indicatedthat angry faces amidst a happy crowd were foundmore rapidly than a happy face amongst angrydistracters (Hansen & Hansen, 1988).
