Our Faces

Page 3: Faces of Omaha 2016

WHO ARE THE FACES OF OMAHA?

THEY ARE THE people who Omahans think of first when they need the experts, the pros, the best in the business. They are the maestros, the

mavens, and the masters. They are the go-to men and women who have made it their business to be the best at what they do.

Without these faces in Omaha, this city would not be a thriving metropolis, nor a city that year after year consistently is ranked one of the best places to live in America.

In the pages to follow, you’ll be introduced to more than 60 people and companies that are the best in the Omaha metro area in their respective areas of expertise.

Well, actually, there probably is no need for introduc-tions. You likely already know them. After all, they’re the Faces of Omaha.

HOW MANY TIMES have you had back pain or an injury arise and you decided to wait and hoped it would go away? It didn’t, did it? In these

times, you need a specialist, and Dr. Travis Baker is here to help.

Proper joint alignment of your spinal column is essential because it houses your spinal cord and nerves. Chiropractic treatment involves manual manipulations of the spine or other body parts to re-establish alignment.

As one of his patients said: “Dr. Baker has helped me with hamstring issues, relaxation/stress management, bicep issues, and hip alignment. I met him at Th e Women’s Tri Expo a couple years ago in West Omaha and our values aligned immediately! My only other options were pain meds and I did not want to go that route. I regularly see him for wellness on a regular schedule and have referred many of my clients to him as well!” – Sandy Bikus

ADVERTISING, SIGNS AND displays are what Best Buy Signs has done for nearly 30 years. We manage two outdoor advertising programs for

the City of Omaha; the Omaha Bus Bench Program with more than 500 locations and the Omaha Parks Program, advertising in the City’s favorite baseball and soccer complexes, golf courses and ice arenas. Proceeds from both programs raise revenue for the City. We off er in-house design services, production and installation with unmatched speed for our clients at highly desirable locations. Outdoor advertising, also known as “Out of Home,” is growing in demand

each year as brands take their message to the masses outdoors. People spend up to 70% of their time out of home, so utilizing OOH makes sense. OOH also stretches the boundaries of creativity to heighten ad awareness and grab consumers’ attention.

“I personally invite every Omaha business, brand and nonprofi t to advertise with us. I guarantee you will love it!”

YOUR CHILDREN WANT to create, to express themselves. At Kitty Lee Dance Studio, we use the art of dance to develop creativity and

foster talents.

Our founder, Kitty Lee Dahlberg, began Kitty Lee Dance Studio out of her home more than 50 years ago. Her students went to conventions with her, danced on Show Wagons, and danced in competitions, winning many awards.

As her reputation grew, her studio grew. Our former students have included Rockettes, Broadway perform-ers, 4 Junior Misses, and 7 Miss Nebraskas. Whether your child wants to take dance recreationally or com-petitively, we can fi t your needs. We are recognized by the Omaha community and numerous organizations throughout the United States. We teach students from 18 months to 18 years. Whether your student wants to learn classic ballet or modern hip hop, we can teach them.

I LEARNED TO DRIVE a skid loader at a time when many of my friends were trying to decide if it was safe to take the training wheels off their fi rst bicycles.

Growing up a Lanoha meant there was always plenty of work to be done…and plenty of big-boy toys to master—usually when I was sure my dad wasn’t watching. But my favorite form of mastery has come from the family skills, knowledge, and expertise honed over the generations, ones that allow us to have a hand in helping you create the most beautiful outdoor spaces.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is in know-ing that our team gets to advise you in everything from the smallest planting decisions (“Yes, this variety

will go bonkers in the full-sun space you describe.”) to being the professionals you count on to design and execute your most ambitious landscaping dreams.

And we feel super-lucky that the Faces of Omaha are being introduced in April.

Spring, that time of rebirth, is special in so many families, but in mine it is downright magic. Sure, we’re your year-round source for so many creatively colorful home and garden ideas, but the changing of the season brings more than just the promise of new life, new growth, and new visions—it means my family and I will soon enjoy seeing a lot more of you as we roll up our sleeves on this year’s projects!

YOU MAY NOT recognize the logo sewn on the shirt of Rick Bettger. Th e name “Omaha Car Care” is new, but the company behind it is not.

Bettger’s father, Ron, co-founded House of Muffl ers & Brakes in Omaha in 1970. ICE CREAM IS the perfect treat for those hot summer days or after-game snacks, and Ted and Wally’s isn’t just an ice cream parlor, it’s an Omaha tradi-

tion. Since its inception in 1984, Ted and Wally’s has maintained its stellar reputation by producing endless barrels of high-quality homemade ice cream made from scratch with fresh ingredients.

We take pride in our super-premium, 18% butterfat, product. Our base is made from scratch, using a family recipe with all-natural ingredients. Th e creaminess comes from real butterfat & eggs. Feeling vanilla? Add

some spice to your life by trying one of our house-made specialty fl avors, which could be anything from chai tea to jalapeño raspberry. Don’t want something so creative? Don’t worry we also have vanilla.

If real ice cream isn’t your dish, we have other options, from vegan sorbets to frozen yogurt. Come taste a non-traditional tradition.

XL Pipeline, the 25-year-old Creighton graduate who is now the national press secretary for Bernie Sanders, and girls who are lost to the sex trade.

We tell the stories that put Omaha on the map—the people, the food, the arts, the culture. Omaha Magazine is your premier guide
