So What do Students Learn from Apparel Art and Design???

• creativity, a skill many employers are looking for (any project they complete is using creativity from making pattern and fabric selections to personalizing their product with some type of embellishment.)

• engineering and math: planning process, designing, pro-type, creating (Quilting would be an example.)

• operation and use of different pieces of equipment, such as sewing machines, rotatory cutters and matts, embroidery programs, serging, etc. (many types of projects teach this)

• technical reading: many students have not experiences receiving a page of instructions and learning how to follow it. This is a skill that is used in the work place as well as everyday life. (As a parent how many times have you had to put something together such as toys by reading the directions and learning how to follow it.)

• sense of accomplishment, pride and patience's: (these are things that many students have not experienced and are ethics that all people need to take to the work place, soft skills)

• properties of textiles: (what types of fabrics are good for certain types of clothing, activities, and house ware items)

• Construction techniques:(how to construct items as well as shape them for their intended purpose such as fit)

• How does this all fit into the MDE initiatives and our FACS programs??? Anoka Middle School has a successful and fast growing program: Fabric Arts I, II, III
