Prayer should always be a vital part of our lives. While there are various ways to pray I’d like to cover one

practice that I learned years ago that I feel always makes my prayer time a little bit more effective.

First of all, we should always think of prayer as simply spending time with a friend. If we try too hard to

concentrate, or we think thoughts like, “Am I doing this right,” then the focus is not exactly like spending time with a

friend.

One practice that I found helps is to first, find a specific place to pray, a place that your mind and heart thinks

of as “that’s where I encounter Jesus,” or “that’s where I spend time with God.” Then sit in silence for a little while

and try to let your distractions go. Don’t “force them out.” Just try to see them as not being important right now.

Then every time you exhale simply, inaudibly, say the word, “Jesus,” and keep your focus on him. You’re not thinking

of what to say to him or you’re not “listening really hard,” just keep your focus upon him and desire to be in his

presence.

If you can do that practice for about four or five minutes when you begin to pray you might find the time you

spend with your friend to be a little more fruitful.

God Bless,

Fr. Sean

PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN

Heavenly Father, you create us in your own image and you desire that not even

the least among us should perish. In your love for us,

you entrusted your only Son to the

holy Virgin Mary. Now, in your love,

protect the unborn to whom you have given the gift of life.

Our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) meetings have begun, but it is

not too late to join us! RCIA is for individuals who are not Catholic but are

interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. Also welcome are those

who were Baptized Catholic but did not receive some or any of their other

Sacraments. Those who go through the RCIA process and would like to receive

the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) would do

so at the Easter Vigil Mass in April. If you are interested or would like to learn

more, please contact Katie Boosel at [email protected] or on her

cell at 724-953-1669.
