Pontifical Good Friday Collection

Pope Francis has asked our Parish to sup-

port the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps

Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church

minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools, and offer

religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection

also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest,

and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In

these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection

provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contrib-

ute to this Collection, you become an instrument of peace

and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with

the Church in the Holy Land. For more information, visit:

Mass Schedule

To accommodate our Spanish speaking

community, all Wednesday evening Mass-

es, beginning April 4th , will be celebrated

in Spanish. The Mass is open to everyone

to attend.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED

Question: Where do Palm Sunday palms come from and where

should they go?

Answer: The Palm Sunday celebration has ancient origins. Begin-

ning the liturgy "outside" the church, we symbolically reenact Christ's entry into Jerusalem.

The crowds in ancient Israel waved palm branches - a symbol of royalty - to welcome Jesus.

These days, obtaining palms takes a lot of planning and coordination, as hundreds of thou-

sands of churches worldwide need them on the same day! Many in the United States order

palms from Florida, California, Texas, or Central America. Many companies stress the sus-

tainability of their production and the just wages paid to their workers.

The palms used on Palm Sunday are blessed at Mass. This means they shouldn't end up

in the trash! Many people weave palms into crosses or families display them in their homes.

If you do not plan on displaying your palms throughout the year, they should be burned,

buried, or left at the church. In the final case, the palms are burned to provide the ashes for

next year's Ash Wednesday service.

God’s Word Calls Us to Pray

One key reason to pray is because God has command-ed us to pray. If we are to be obedient to HIS will, then prayer must be part of our life in HIM.

All Children who are in Religious Education classes

are required to know their prayers. Please help your

child by praying the basic prayers every night:

The Sign of the Cross, The Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, Doxology, and the Act of Contrition.

SBYG Mission Statement

We are a family of young Catholics committed to the goal of living out the call of the Gospel through fellow-ship, prayer, and service in a constant effort to become the young men and women God created each one to be. Members of the group strive to know Christ more intimately, to understand His constant love for them, and to share it with those around them.

Help a Teen go to Retreat with your Sponsorship: Our Summer and Winter Retreats have been a crucial

tool for the spiritual growth of our teens. Many of them

would like to attend but are financially unable; but with

your help, we can make these opportunities possible for

them. Please consider giving a donation that would help

students reach this goal. Whatever your possibilities are,

help make a difference in our teens’ lives.

Warriors for Christ ~Young Adult Group~

Warriors for Christ is a group of young Catholics, 18 years & up, devoted to the work of God and His Church. We strive to lift each other up in our spiritual faith as Christians. Our focus is to provide charitable service to those in need in

our community & to petition God for His continual help and guidance. (We meet on Wednesdays at Holy Family Center at 7:30 p.m.)

Your gift helps put our faith into action. By making a gift to the 2018 Bishop’s Ministry Appeal, you join hands with thousands whose generosity brings the love of Christ to so many in our diocese. Your gift directly supports di-ocesan ministries serving our parishes. Your gift should have some sacrificial relationship to your standard of living and God’s generosity and blessings

to you and your family. No pledge is too small or too

large. To make a pledge, you can do so online at stock-tondiocese.org/BMA, or by mail, or at Mass. Please make checks payable to the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal Trust. If you have not yet made your contribution, it’s not too late.

Together as a Parish Community we can reach our goal

of $342,000.00.

Pledges to date: $126,744.00 # of Participating Families: 429 Paid to date: $80,699.04

Thank you for your sacrificial, supportive donations,

and prayers.

LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

!

Today some of the most poignant themes of human life come into clear cen-tral focus: the feeling of being praised and honored, fear, anxiety, betrayal, despair, doubt, uncertainty, trust, hope, sadness, separation, suffering, death, determination, and courage. These are the emotions and realities that every human being wrestles with often. Jesus, the Son of God, encounters them all. As we jour-ney through life, we have to confront the existential mean-ing of each of these things. How do they fit into the bigger picture? Jesus shows us most clearly that even those things we fear the most lose their power when we discover that we are being led to new life. Suffering is redemptive. Sin and death give way to grace and life and God's unconditional love conquers all. May we see in Jesus' Way of the Cross the path of truth we all must follow. !
