a. It’s important to be on time for a job interview. b. It’s important to have the right qualifications and experience. c. It’s important to show soft skills during a job interview.

Academic Skill: Predict the topicYou can often guess what an article is about by looking at the title and pictures. This will prepare you to understand what you read.

Are immigrants happy to be here in the U.S.?It is not easy to leave your home. It is hardto start a new life in a new country. But more than 70% of immigrants in the U.S. say they are happy to be here.

15

How do you get the job of your dreams? You need to have the right skills. This means having the qualifications, experience, and ability to do the job.

You need to have some other skills as well. These are sometimes called “soft skills.” These skills are about what you are like as a person, how you do things, and how you get along with other people. During a job interview, you must show that you have these skills.

Here are some soft skills that employers look for in employees.

Enthusiasm Show enthusiasm by being on time, asking questions, and listening. Employers like people who have enthusiasm.

Good Communication Can you clearly explain your ideas? In a job interview, make sure you answer questions confidently and clearly.

Problem Solving Tell the interviewer about a time when you solved a dicult problem. Employers also want to know if you can work on your own.

Team Player Team skills are also important. Employers want to know if you can work with others, and help and guide them. Tell a story about when you did this.

These skills are valuable, so try to show that you have them. Doing this will help you get a great job.
