Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society (formerly Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidya Pratishthan Society) was established by Pad. Dr. D. Y. Patil in the year 1984 with aim to establish educational institute to cater the needs of the deserving students and especially for the students coming from weaker section of the society.

Today, it imparts quality education in the field of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Computer, Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Architecture, Hotel Management, Nursing, Dental, Medical, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Physiotherapy and Optometry etc. All these institutes are spread over beautiful picturesque campus in Pune at Pimpri, Akurdi and Tathawade are recognized by Govt. of Mahatashtra and approved by various regulatory authorities.

HON. Dr. SOMNATH P. PATIL SECRETARY - Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society

Dr. Somnath Patil joined D. Y. Patil umbrella in April 2008 after completing his Business Management course from Regis University, USA and Cardiff College in the UK.

After acquiring rich international experience, he accepted the task of running his institutes and is presently looking after purchases, the appointment of staff, logistics, admissions, expansion, and construction of colleges. The way forward for big institutes like the D. Y. Patil, Dr. Somnath Patil believes, is to initiate change through dynamic education. He wants to take his educational empire to other locations outside India.

As an educationist, he likes the US education culture of initiating a thinking process by

keeping small student strength and implementation of the practical approach to case studies for better understanding. In his stint in India, he is trying his best to inculcate this Western pattern of education at D. Y. Patil institutes. Even though, the D. Y. Patil group specializes in engineering and management education; with Dr. Somnath Patil now at the helm, focusing more on management education and other modern courses. He is always happy to grasp new ideas and makes efforts to implement them. In the years to come, Dr. Somnath Patil looks forward to empowering students. He believes students should be proud of passing out from a D. Y. Patil institutes.

He has around 20 years of Professional experience & has Published more than 80 research Papers in national & international reputed journals, 04 Books and 12 Monograms in Reference Book and has filed 05 patents. He is an approved PG & Ph.D Guide of SPPU, Pune and has guided 54 PG Students and 03 Ph.D awarded and 04 students are pursuing their Ph.D under his guidance on different area of research. He has received research grant worth Rs.95 Lacs from AICTE, DST and SPPU for research projects.

Pharm. D or Doctor of Pharmacy is a professional degree in pharmacy stream, which was developed with an objective of developing pharmacists to play an important role in patient care as members of the health care team. Pharm D course duration is six years in total inclusive of 5 years of learning and one year of internship for practical learning.

The only doctoral degree that can be pursued right after passing 10+2 qualifying examinations. Moreover, Pharm. D can also be pursued by B. Pharm graduates by seeking admissions to lateral entry course i.e. Pharm. D (Post Baccalaureate).

STATE NATIONAL INTERNATIONAL ZONAL UNIVERSITY

INNOVATION AND INCUBATION CELL is launched with a perspective of development and excellence of the students and the faculty members of Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research. It provides a platform for entrepreneurial aspirations among the young students and encourages them to choose entrepreneurship as their career. Under this cell, the researches as well as innovative ideas are invited from B. Pharm., M. Pharm., PhD, and Pharm. D. students of the institute, which are incubated and worked upon under the guidance of subject expert to develop necessary skills, raising research funds, and legal protection of innovative idea. It equips the students with necessary skills and guidance for developing their business enterprise in near future. It extrapolates the student’s projects to achieve national sustainable goals and thus to inculcate social responsive behaviours among students. Also, this cell is responsible for evaluating and guiding all the projects going out for inter-collegiate competitions at state, national, and international levels.

Mega Alumni Meet was arranged by the institute at Kalasagar where more than 400 alumni from around the world had participated in the meeting. Alumni meet is a platform to meet and share the experiences with the alumni who graduated from the Institute over the past 25 years, especially the seniors who graduated during its infancy.

Students are the bridge between Parents and Teachers. The main purpose of meet was to create a common platform, where teacher and parents come together to improve the student’s educational performance and excellence. During parent meet the entire teaching faculty interacts individually with all the parents about their ward studies, shortcoming and steps to improve their performance etc.

Every year the institute schedule industrial visit for UG and PG Students. Students are directed to visits the nearby pharmaceutical industries. The purpose of industrial visit is to update the students with current industrial practices and to observe the various manufacturing equipment and documentation. The students have to submit the industrial report after each visit. It is ensured during industrial visit that each student will learn the practical application of theoretical knowledge which they have studied in curriculum. In last few years students visited to Nulife Pharmaceuticals, Ayurveda Rasashala, Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation Ltd., Everest Pharma etc.

PHARMACY WEEK

The Institute celebrated National Pharmacy Week with the core theme “Pharmacist: Your medicines experts”. During this event, competitions like Rangoli, Debate, Pharma - detailing, Group Discussion, Eco-friendly Ganesha, Patient counselling, Ad-Mad, Quiz, treasure hunt and Paper presentation were held at the institute. The institute secured overall runner-up championship in 57th NPW organized by IPA, Pune.

Institute has Registered NSS Unit under SPPU to conduct social awareness program for society. Every year institute organizes various activities and NSS Special Camps under NSS nearby villages. Various activities like Medical Check-up Ganesh Idol Donation Police Mitra Program Anti Terrorist Rally NSS Day Road Safety Personal Hygiene and Disadvantages of Tobacco Clothes Donation to Tribal Peoples Unused Medicine Collection are conducted by NSS Unit.
