Cast Announced for Escanaba in Da Moonlight
Escanaba in Da Moonlight is Jeff Daniel's hilariously twisted comedy about five Yoopers - residents of Michigan's Upper Peninsula - and their escapades at a ramshackle deer camp on the eve of the Opening Day of the 1989 hunting season.
For nearly three quarters of a century, Soady men have trekked to their little "home away from home" north of Escanaba - the heart and soul of the U.P. - to drink, cause a little bit of trouble, and bag bucks. But in the words of Patriarch Albert Soady (Jim Toth), "Dat year camp was as tense as a moose's butt durin' fly season." At 43, Reuben Soady (Patrick Davis) is in danger of becoming the oldest member in the history of the family never to bag a buck. Known around town as the "Buckless Yooper," even Reuben's wife, Wolf Moon Dance (Shelly Umathum), is a better shot. As the fateful dawn approaches, Reuben attempts to change his luck by altering several of the time tested rituals and traditions of Soady deer camp, but only succeeds in fueling a series of strange and unexplainable events causing Remnar (Pete Rose), Reuben's overly superstitious brother, to remark, "If I didn't know better, I'd say this camp was cursed." Following a blinding whoosh of light, Jimmer Negamanee (Wes Taylor), who once was abducted by aliens, arrives at camp. Department of Natural Resources Ranger Tom T. Treado (Kyle Slagley) shows up unannounced to inform the Soadys he's just seen God up on their ridge.

Harvey Auditions Coming in March Elwood P. Dowd is an affable man who claims to have a friend, Harvey, whom he describes as a six-foot, three-and-one-half-inch tall pooka resembling a rabbit. Elwood introduces Harvey to everyone he meets. His social-climbing sister, Veta, increasingly finds his eccentric behavior
embarrassing. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. When they arrive at the sanitarium, a comedy of errors ensues. The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, when the truth comes out the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When Elwood shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on the staff, including Dr. Chumley and his medical partner Dr. Sanderson. Harvey, by Mary Chase will run May 5-8 and 12-15. Director Jim Toth will hold auditions March 27 & 28. Watch for more details in the March Fortell.

There are three positions open for the 2011-2012 election. Each of these is for a three year term. In order to be a board member, you must have attended three meetings (board or general), worked on a show in some capacity (ushering does not count), or been a chair (or co-chair), of a permanent committee. New board members will join Marty Williams, Georgia Durain, Deb Finley, Tara Laciano, Pete Rose, and Wes Taylor. AACT (American Association of Community Theatre) festivals are part
of a multi-year process that culminates in a national festival held in odd-numbered years. AACTFest provides an opportunity for community theatres from AACT's 11 regions to enter productions for adjudication and advancement from state to regional to national level. AACTFest is both a celebration of theatre and a learning experience for those who take part. AACTFest11 is a national theatre event that will bring the best community theatre productions from across the country and the U.S. Armed Services in Europe to Rochester, New York, June 20-26, 2011. Over 600 people are expected to participate in this American Association of Community Theatre flagship event. Performances, workshops and exhibitions are open to the public. Region III consists of theatres in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The Region III Festival will be April 29 - May 1, 2011 in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio Community Theatre Association State AACTFest will be held March 4-6 in Maumee, hosted by 3B Productions (606 Conant St). Membership Morale Committee Happenings By Samantha Henry, Membership Morale Chair On December 21
st the Membership Morale Committee hosted a caroling and
Christmas party. The group met around 6:00 P.M. at the playhouse. The caroling consisted of many holiday favorites including Joy to the World, Sleigh Ride, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and many others. We traveled up and down Sandusky St., hitting all the houses lit for the holiday. The caroling was concluded at Marty and Cathy Williams house, where the Christmas party began. The party was “ugly sweater” themed. All guests were encouraged to wear their
ugliest Christmas sweater to show off. There were many treats provided by the
participants, and even those who could not attend donated to the festivities.
Betty Hipp, J. Ladd, and Donnita Krauss were not able to attend, but brought
snacks, cups, and drinks. The party was wrapped up by having a white
elephant gift exchange. There were about 25 gifts being passed around and
stolen, but the most stolen gift was an old fashioned Etch-a-sketch.

Titanic Plans Underway By Patrick Davis, Playreading Chair
The playreading committee is taking steps to finalize the 2011-2012 FFP season. We do not yet have a completed slate of shows to present to the board for approval, but we are very excited about what we plan to be our anchor show.
April 15, 2012 will mark the 100-year anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. RMS Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world when she set off on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City on April 10, 1912. Four days into the crossing, at 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912, she struck an iceberg and sank at 2:20 am the following morning, resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
Titanic the Musical opened on Broadway way in 1995. The show has music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Peter Stone. It won five Tony Awards, including the award for Best Musical. The story follows the passengers and crew as they meet and board the show’s main character; the ship herself. Then the unthinkable happens, “The Ship of Dreams”, “The Unsinkable Ship” hits an iceberg and slowly begins to slip beneath the icy Atlantic Ocean. Life in the first, second and third class sections of the ship, stories of heroism, love and despair are all described in song.
We are hoping to be able to put on the show near the actual anniversary of her sinking. Marty Williams has expressed an interest in directing this colossal (should I say titanic) undertaking and is already hard at work trying to find a way to sink an entire ocean liner with only 42 feet of stage. We are also hoping to fill the rest of the season with shows never before seen on the FFP stage. Plan on joining Fort Findlay Playhouse for all the 2011-2012 season.

Looking for “Spook House” help! By Elizabeth Orley The Playhouse will be moving the annual haunted house from the train museum off of I-75 to our own grounds at the warehouse. We are still in the planning phase and are looking for help on the planning committee, workers, and characters. This event will be taking place each full weekend in October on Friday and Saturday.
The planning committee will meet for a second time on Thursday, January 27th at 6 pm at the Playhouse. If anyone is interested in helping us plan, we’d be happy to have you! At this meeting we will be looking at the following things: Name ideas for the spook house and themes for each room. If you have ideas for a room, please make a list of props and a rough estimate budget for that room. We are hoping to get lots of people and lots of ideas to make this a super scary and successful year! Miss Hann igan - age range 30s to 40 s, must s ing and dance, with some solo w ork. Excellent character role. Miss Hann igan runs the orphanage
for girls.
Grace Farrell - age range 20s to 30s, mus t sing soprano range and move well. Grace is secretary to Oliver Warbucks.
Lily St. Regis - age range 20s to 30s, must sing and dance. Lily is Rooster Hannigan's g irlfriend and might be described as 'not too bright'.
Principal Men's Roles :
Oliver Warbucks - age range 40s-50s, mus t sing and dance. Successful b ill ionaire industrialist. Very po mpous but has a softer side.
Rooster Hannigan - age range 20s to 30s , must sing and dance. Excellent character role.
FDR - small, but importan t character role.
Children's Roles:
All of the children sing and dance. Age ranges given are the character's age. Hopefully girls who are a lit tle older, bu t "look" younger will
be cast in many of the roles. Due to the paces of the rehearsals and the show, i t is recommended that aud itioners be at least eigh t years
old.
Annie - age range 10-11. Must sing and dance well. This ro le requires terrific stamina because of the nu mber of scenes invo lved.
Molly - character age range of 5-6 but will be p layed by an older child who looks younger.
